Varun Dhawan is among the new generation's most popular and successful stars. His charm, fun attitude, acting skills, and honesty have won over the hearts of fans who admire the star. He has starred in successful films like Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania, Badlapur, Judwaa 2, Jugjugg Jeeyo, Bawaal, and more. The actor is the son of popular Bollywood director, David Dhawan. However, Varun started his career by assisting Karan Johar in My Name Is Khan. He later debuted in Bollywood in the popular 2012 film, Student Of The Year, directed by Karan Johar. In a new conversation, Varun revealed why his father didn't launch him in Bollywood.
On August 30, 2024, Varun Dhawan attended the launch event of his niece, Anjini Dhawan's debut film, Binny And Family. He was accompanied by many of his family members as they came to support Anjini. During the conversation, Varun shared that he has no credit to take in Anjini's launch, which was her own hard work. As a result, the actor was proud of his niece.

To explain his point, Varun said that he came to support Anjini because he is like an elder brother to her and because Binny And Family is a good film. He went on to share that he played no role in his debut. Varun asserted that his father, David Dhawan, never launched him because it is not a practice in their family to help their kids debut in the industry. The actor added that his father didn't believe in it. He was quoted as saying:
"She is my niece but I am here as sort of an elder brother... It is a good film that is why I am here. Like my father never launched me because that tradition is not there in my family, he doesn't believe in that. We have no hand in what she has done and it will be wrong for me to take credit for any of her success."
David Dhawan recently sat down to chat with Arbaaz Khan on The Invincibles Series. He shared that Varun approached Karan Johar for work. The filmmaker revealed he and his wife were planning that he might become a banker after studying aboard. In his words:
"He came back from abroad after studying, and I asked, 'What do you want to do in life?' Lalli (his wife) said, 'Everyone is taking up a bank job these days'. We never talked about films. All of a sudden, he went to Karan Johar and said, 'I want to assist you.' Obviously, Karan knew the family very well, and they went abroad to work on My Name is Khan. The cameraman, Ravi Chandran, was the one who told Karan to keep an eye on him."
Varun Dhawan last made a special appearance on the work front in the 2024 film, Stree 2. He will next be seen in movies like Baby John, Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari, and Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai. At the same time, the actor will be seen in the web series, Citadel: Honey Bunny.
