Varun Dhawan recently promoted his film Baby John, which is now out in theatres. The film's promotion was a ride for the actor, as he was seen having many candid conversations during the promotions. The actor discussed his experience with Baby John's team and even shared insights from the emotional changes he has gone through since becoming a father. He also gave us some details about his relationship with his wife, Natasha Dalal. Recently, Varun shared about his childhood coming from a middle-class family.
Varun Dhawan recently sat for a chat with Shubhankar Mishra on his YouTube channel and reflected on his humble beginning during the '90s. The actor claimed that he grew up in a one-bedroom apartment. He shared that his elder brother, Rohit Dhawan, and his parents, filmmaker, David Dhawan and Karuna Dhawan, always made sure that he never lacked anything despite their middle-class upbringing. Talking about their financial situation, the actor explained that his father didn't earn huge amounts of money despite being a successful filmmaker in the 1990s because salaries were relatively modest during that era. Talking about his childhood and lifestyle, he was quoted saying:
"Voh gareebi nahi hoti hai. My father has risen in life…he came from Kanpur to Mumbai. We used to live in one bedroom flat but that wasn’t poverty because the way my parents bought me up…I was in a fairytale. My elder brother protected me so much when I was a child I didn’t even understand things. I would go around in an auto, and I would think of myself as a king. I have travelled in autos till the age of 15."
Varun reflected on his life in the '90s as the best time of his life. He recalled sharing a room with his brother some of his most cherished times. Varun also revealed that he used to hold his brother's hand while sleeping. He said:
"My brother and I have shared one room for 7-8 years, and it was the best time of my life. We used to sleep on the same bed, and I would hold my brother’s hand and sleep."
Varun Dhawan was asked how his family lived a middle-class life when David Dhawan was delivering so many hit films during the 1990s. Varun responded by saying that a producer's life is extremely different than a director's life. He added that his father was a director, and when he was growing up, people in his father's profession did not earn much. He explained:
"A producer’s life is very different from a director’s life. My father was a director, and during that time, when he was rising in his career in the 1990s, the salaries weren’t that high because he was providing a service. He wasn’t a producer. He never got into production because he found that very manipulative and stressful. When I was born in 1987, that was the first time my father bought a car."
