Varun Dhawan's Dad, David, Had Threatened To Leave The Actor On The Streets Of London; Here's Why

Bollywood actor, Varun Dhawan has been a movie fan ever since he was a kid. However, his father, David Dhawan, was very strict with him since he was a kid. The ace filmmaker had directed Amitabh Bachchan and Govinda's 1998 movie Bade Miyan Chote Miyan. It was in the same year when Karan Johar- directed, Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, which had also been released. Shah Rukh Khan, Kajol, and Rani Mukerji films were Varun's favourites. The actor remembered that his father disliked Varun's desire to watch, Kuch Kuch Hota Hai. Here's what happened.

Why did Varun Dhawan's dad, David, threaten to abandon him on the streets of London?

During an interview with The Indian Express, Varun Dhawan recollected when he was in London for the premiere of his dad David's movie, Bade Miyan Chote Miyan. His father had jokingly threatened him to leave him on the streets of London. This was because the Bade Miyan Chote Miyan premiere was in London. The producers had got him, and his father a Limousine with the faces of Govinda and Amitabh Bachchan pasted on it. The actor had explained:

"We were going through the streets of London in that limousine, with both of them making funny faces in the poster. But I was dying to watch Kuch Kuch Hota Hai and I didn’t even know Karan at that point of time. Kuch Kuch Hota Hai just felt like a cooler film, but my dad was like, ‘Stop it, I will leave you on the streets here’. I remember telling him you can’t treat children here like this and my dad was like, ‘He is so badly behaved, why did I get him here’. Day one of Bade Miyan was bigger because of the mass factor but obviously Kuch Kuch Hota Hai went on to become huge. And I ultimately got launched by Karan Johar".

When Varun Dhawan revealed that his dad, David Dhawan, would not launch him

Even though Varun Dhawan is the famous son of ace director David Dhawan, his path in Bollywood was not easy. A report by the Hindustan Times revealed that neither he nor his brother, Rohit Dhawan had got special treatment from his father. Varun had said:

"Dad made it very clear he will not launch me or my brother. In fact, he has been often asked to launch other people's children and he does not do that, too. So, it was a challenge for me. I had to work hard and keep on trying. I began my prep, took acting lessons and I was an assistant director for My Name is Khan (2010). This entire process of learning and working on myself helped me."
