The Punjabi entertainment world is mourning yet another heartbreaking loss. Just a day after the industry lost a star with the death of Rajvir Jawanda, actor and bodybuilder, Varinder Singh Ghuman's death has left everyone in shock. The actor reportedly passed away at the age of 53 after suffering from a heart attack in Amritsar. He was known for his sturdy physique and for being India's biggest vegetarian bodybuilder. Although Varinder preferred to keep his personal life private, here is everything we know about him.
Varinder Singh Ghuman was an active user of social media. However, he kept his personal life private, limiting it to his professional work, and concealed it from the media spotlight. But some reports suggest that he was married. However, the details about his wife's identity remain undisclosed, and he did not post any pictures or details about his marriage on Instagram. At the same time, reports and his social media suggest that he was a devoted father to his children, including his sons, Gurtejvir Singh Ghuman and Bhagwant Singh Ghuman, and daughters, Gavy Ghuman and Ekamjot Ghuman.
Although he rarely shared the details about his personal life, he had posted heartwarming birthday wishes for his daughter, who turned 15 in March 2025, and for his elder son in December 2024. Apart from these posts, he remained private about his family, focusing on his work and fitness journey. Varinder was born in Gurdaspur, Punjab, and came from a family with a rich sports background. His father, Bhupinder Singh, was a retired Assistant Sub-Inspector and a Kabaddi player, while his grandfather was a hockey player. Meanwhile, his mother, Harbhajan Kaur, passed away in 2009.
According to India Today, Varinder Singh Ghuman was admitted to Fortis Hospital in Amritsar for a minor surgery related to a bicep injury. It was a routine procedure, but things took an unexpected turn when he suffered a sudden cardiac arrest during treatment. Although, doctor tried their best to save him, they were unable to revive him. His sudden death has shocked the Punjabi film and bodybuilding community. Meanwhile, Varinder was a keen admirer of the Punjabi entertainment industry and just a day before his demise, he mourned the demise of Rajvir Jawanda and penned:
"RIP brother. It is a big loss to Punjab and the Punjabi music industry. May god give strength to his family."
Varinder Singh Ghuman, standing at 6 feet 3 inches, used to be in the 120 kg-plus heavyweight category. He won the titles of Mr. Punjab and Mr. India before achieving global fame as the first Asian to participate in Arnold Schwarzenegger's Arnold Classic bodybuilding contest. He had even secured second place at Mr. Asia. Varinder later transitioned into acting and debuted in Kabaddi Once Again in 2012. He had trained actors like Ranveer Singh and featured in Bollywood films such as Roar: Tigers of the Sundarbans and Marjaavaan. His last appearance was in Tiger 3, co-starring Salman Khan and Katrina Kaif.
