The horrifying car crash, which occurred late in the night of March 14, 2025, in Karelibaug, Vadodara, has gotten the country raging and raising concerns about reckless driving and road safety. The prime accused in the case is a 20-year-old law student who was behind the steering wheel. The crash left several people seriously injured and claimed the life of a 35-year-old. Now, one of the survivors, Vikas Kevlani, shared his harrowing experience of that fateful night.

Vadodara car crash survivor recalls the devastating moments right after the high-speed collision

On the night of March 14, 2025, one of the crash survivors, Vikas, his siblings, Jayesh and Komal, and a few of their neighbours, including the deceased, Hemaliben Patel, were out on two-wheelers to buy refreshments. A speeding Volkswagen Virtus, allegedly driven by a 20-year-old law student named Rakshit Ravish Chaurasia, rammed into them from behind at high speed. In an interview with ANI, Vikas shared:

“I was out with my siblings and neighbours to grab some refreshments. Our neighbor Hemaliben Patel has died, and her husband Purabbhai Patel is critical. We were on two-wheelers. Suddenly, a car hit us from behind. It was being driven at a very high speed. When I was falling from the scooter, my eyes were open. And I saw that parts of the other scooter (which Purab and Hemali were riding) were flying in the air. The couple suffered serious injuries.”

An ‘enjoyment’ gone wrong

The accident, which involved three two-wheelers and a car, claimed the life of a 35-year-old woman named Hemali Patel. Her daughter and husband, Purab sustained severe injuries. Vikas and his family are still recovering from multiple fractures, with some members undergoing surgeries, including plastic surgery.

In his interaction with ANI, Vikas alleged that the accused was over-speeding 'for enjoyment purposes' and appeared intoxicated. Referring to videos showing Rakshit screaming 'another round', 'Nikita', and 'Om Namah Shivay' moments after the accident, Vikas remarked:

“No normal person would behave like that. He was shouting strange things after the crash… Only strict punishment will make them realise the consequences of their actions.”

“There was a scooty and a car while we were turning right... The car slightly touched the other vehicle and the airbag opened suddenly, our vision was hampered and the car went out of control… We were going at 50 km/hour… I did not do any party, I went for Holika Dahan and was not drunk… It is my fault and whatever they want, that should happen.”

Victim’s family demands harshest punishment

The Kevlani family, still reeling from the trauma of the night, has demanded that Rakshit never be granted bail. Ajit Kevlani, a family member, described how their children, who were badly injured, would not be able to live a normal life again. The family is expected to file a formal complaint once Vikas recovers.

After surviving the brutal crash, Vikas Kavlani hopes this incident serves as a warning to the younger generation about the devastating impact of reckless driving.
