Urvasi Dholakia is a popular actress who has played one of the most iconic villains on Indian television. Yes, we are talking about the evil ‘Komolika’ from Ekta Kapoor’s iconic serial, Kasautii Zindagii Kay, co-starring Shweta Tiwari, Cezzane Khan, and Rohit Roy. However, in real life, Urvashi’s story has been one of bitter pasts and difficult sacrifices.
During a recent chat with Hauterrfly, Urvashi recalled the most difficult phase of her life, after getting divorced at the age of 18 with twin babies. Urvashi was only 16 when she got married, and within less than two years, she had her twin boys, Sagar and Kshitij. After getting divorced, Urvashi and her mother looked after the kids, but they were sent to boarding school when they were eight years old. Recalling that phase, Urvashi shared:
“It was difficult. Mujhe eventually unko boarding school bhejna pada tha. Wo meri maa ka decision tha, mera nahi tha… The lesson I learned from her is, she told me (for all single mothers)... un logo ko apne paas rakhke indisciplined life dene se better hai ki unko hostel mein daal, unko disciplined life milegi. You will never be able to give them time, they will get indisciplined. Grandparents kab tak karenge, Because they are also ageing. So, that I agree with.”
Having faced so many hardships at such a young age, Urvashi was devastated at the thought of parting ways with her sons. The actress recalled how she used to cry every day initially, as she missed her children tremendously. She gradually came to terms with the reality upon realising her busy schedule. Urvashi told Hauterrfly:
Pehle mujhe bohot bura laga tha, ke alag ho rahe hai hum log. I used to cry every day of my life, bacche nahi hai ghar pe. But then I realised main khud ghar pe nahi hun… so, my mother’s decision was absolutely bang on.”
Further in the conversation, Urvashi shared how her sons grew up to be disciplined gentlemen. The doting mother proudly remarked that her sons know and understand household responsibilities, and what it’s like to live with a woman. She was quoted as saying:
"My sons are disciplined. Mera ek beta aaj chai banake deta hai, khana banake deta hai, they do everything, all household chores… see, my father passed away in 2010, uske baad… they have only grown up with women: mummy, main. They have seen it all. They know what it is to live with women. They have seen the hardships. So they know."
Urvashi, who got married at an early age, had a bitter experience with love. After divorcing her ex-husband back in 1996, Urvashi found love again with model and actor, Anuj Sachdeva, but they split up after three years of dating. Now, the actress wants to remain a single mother, even though it was difficult in the initial years. On the work front, Urvashi is currently working on the web series, Power of Paanch.
