Being a mother is a tough job but being a single mother makes it even more difficult. From managing everything single-handedly to the constant criticism of the patriarchal society, a single mother bears everything with a strong heart. The word single-mother, which is still a taboo was something which was rarely discussed in the 90s. But television actress, Urvashi Dholakia had happily flaunted the tag of a single mother to her twins, Sagar and Kshitij. She had embraced motherhood at the age of 17 and has beautifully raised her sons breaking all the stereotypical norms. Urvashi Dholakia rose to fame with her stint in Ekta Kapoor’s serial, Kasautii Zindagi Kay, where she had played the iconic negative character of ‘Kamolika’. An epitome of a strong woman, Urvashi had gotten married at the age of 16 and had embraced motherhood within a year. But soon after, she had parted ways with her husband and had decided to raise her boys on her own. And she aced her role as a single mother, who did not compromise on her professional as well as personal life. But raising her kids single-handedly was not easy for her as she would often become the target of personal attacks.
On July 9, 2020, Urvashi turned a year older and celebrated her birthday with her family. She took to her Instagram handle and shared beautiful pictures from her birthday celebrations. In the pictures, Urvashi, who was dressed in beige top and matching bottoms was seen cutting her birthday cake with her mom, her twins, Sagar and Kshitij and singer, Neha Kakkar. Along with the pictures, Urvashi wrote, “Here’s to turning a year younger.”

Singer Neha Kakkar wished Urvashi with a heart-melting birthday wish. She took to her Instagram handle and shared pictures with Urvashi and wrote, “Happy Birthday Didi!! One of the most Strongest Women I know, Inspiration to all those Single Mothers, in-fact all those women who think they can’t do much after loosing a life partner and having kids with them. Look at her! How beautiful she is and her kids of course She’s inspiration for me too. In an interview with Pinkvilla, Urvashi had opened up about the negative criticisms she had faced being a single mother. Revealing details of the same, she had stated, “Of course, there are a lot of people who came and went in the interim and said a lot of things to me, a lot. Some said behind my back, some of them said brutally on my face, very personal attacks on me but then if I start all this affecting me, I wouldn't be where I am. I had no choice but to ignore all of them."
She had also talked about how society had behaved during that time and had shared that the taboo was there but it did not affect her. She had also retorted that not only the societal pressure but, in her family, too, people were hesitant about her single mother status. She had also stated that nowadays, it is not a big deal but the scenario was completely different 25 years back.
Due to the lockdown, a lot of 90s TV shows were being rerun and Dekh Bhai Dekh was one of them. Urvashi had played the role of Shilpa in the same. Urvashi has a very fun relation with her boys, which is pretty evident from her social media as it is full of their hilarious banters. But, in an interview with SpotboyE, she had revealed that she doesn't want to watch the rerun of the show with her sons. She had said, "They have watched a few episodes, which are available on YouTube but sitting with them and watching it together, I may feel funny (laughs)."
