Tyler Robinson's Grandmother, Debbie, Was Unaware Of His Interest In Politics, Called Him 'Good Kid'

Tyler Robinson, a 22-year-old from Utah, has been arrested and is in custody on suspicion of the fatal shooting of conservative activist, Charlie Kirk. He was turned in by his family after authorities released surveillance images of the suspect. The incident created a stir on the internet, with people eagerly awaiting more information about the suspect and his intentions behind the alleged act. His parents and grandmother made brief comments about Tyler after his arrest. His grandmother, particularly, was almost in disbelief that Tyler could be involved in such a crime.

Tyler Robinson's grandmother, Debbie's reaction to his arrest

Debbie Robinson, Tyler Robinson's grandmother, was in shock upon hearing of her grandson's arrest in connection with the assassination of Charlie Kirk. In interviews with news outlets like the Daily Mail, she mentioned that Tyler was a 'shy' person who had never, ever gotten in trouble in his life. She was utterly confused about how a 'good kid' like Tyler got dragged into such a big crime like murder. She stated that 'there is no way that he could have done anything like that' and believed that the FBI 'got it wrong', as in mistook Tyler for someone else.

69-year-old, Debbie also had a similar reaction while talking to NBC. She told them that her grandson was very 'considerate' and he was also 'squeaky clean', with no records of any behavioural or other issues. Debbie also mentioned that she wasn't aware that Tyler went to the Utah Valley University's event on September 11, 2025, the date of Charlie Kirk's murder.

Debbie didn't know Tyler Robinson was interested in politics

Debbie told Daily Mail that the Robinson family was a staunch supporter of Donald Trump and the Republican party. She was not sure how Tyler would have been drawn to the opposing party, as no one in their family was a Democrat. She further said that her grandchild, the suspect in Charlie Kirk's case, had never discussed politics with her, and she wasn't aware of whether Tyler was interested in politics.

These points added to her confusion about Tyler's potential motive in killing Charlie, if he indeed committed the crime. They also made it hard for her to believe that Tyler was guilty of the offence for which he is currently detained. Contrary to Debbie's statement, officials told NBC that Tyler has recently taken an interest in politics and that his neighbours claimed that it wasn't typical of his family. However, Debbie mentioned that the Robinsons were active in terms of politics, and said:

"My son, his dad, is a Republican for Trump. Most of my family members are Republican. I don't know any single one who's a Democrat. I'm just so confused."

Debbie claimed not to know about Tyler's interest in guns

Debbie Robinson feigned innocence when she was asked about her grandson, Tyler's interest in guns. She claimed she had never known him to be associated with guns. Notably, there are photos of Tyler on the internet, showcasing him with weapons. So, either he was good at hiding his whereabouts from his family, or the family members were aware of everything and was trying to protect him. Debbie said, 'I don't think he ever shot a gun, to tell you the truth' and justified her point by mentioning:

"He doesn't hunt, he's never liked anything like that. I know he doesn't own any guns."

According to Debbie, Tyler could never be violent, and she was ready to vouch for his innocence in the Charlie Kirk murder case. She also heaped praises on her grandson and called him a 'wonderful child'. Regarding Tyler's nature and personality, Debbie said:

"There is no way that he could have done anything like that. I would cross my heart and promise that there was absolutely no way. He has never, ever gotten in trouble in his life. He's just a very shy, good kid."
