Tron: Ares is an American science fiction action film directed by Joachim Ronning. The screenplay is by Jesse Wigutow and is inspired by David Digilio and Wingutow. The film is the third instalment in the series and has a massive star cast with impeccable Jared Leto, Greta Lee, Evan Peters, Jodie Turner-Smith and Gillian Anderson. Jeff Bridges also marks his comeback as 'Kevin Flynn' in the series. However, despite the fabulous cast and impeccable behind-the-scenes team, it seems the film got lost in its storyline.
The Tron series is known for its masterful sci-fi ideas, mind-bending visuals and stunning VFX. However, for its third instalment, Tron: Ares, it seems like the film fumbled to find its footing. For the unversed, Tron: Ares is the standalone sequel to Tron: Legacy. It looked spectacular through its promotional assets, but it couldn't fulfil the expectations of fans.
The film begins with the introduction of 'Eve Kim' essayed by Greta Lee and his sister taking over as the heads of 'Kevin Flynn's' portrayed by Jeff Bridges' Encom, who disappeared before the movie starts. Their firm is in a race with Dillinger Systems to discover a revolutionary AI with a 'permanence code' which has the ability to change the world. On the other hand, 'Ares' essayed by Jared Leto is a super-security program created by 'Dillinger', aka, Evan Peters.
It potentially could be the most dangerous weapon in the world if he exists for more than 29 minutes in the meatspace. However, while 'Eve' and 'Julian' hunt for a solution to 'permanence', there are several challenges in their way. Nonetheless, 'Eve' is finally able to find the solution and 'Dillinger' is adamant about going to any length to steal and use it to create his AI warriors, earning trillions of dollars.

The expectations from Tron: Ares were already low, and yet fans were left even more disappointed. The reason is its half-baked screenplay, which reminded the viewers of films like Mickey 17 and Enthiran. Fans complained that the film had no high points and seemed dragged, especially in the second half. A thumping BGM and enriching visuals could hardly save the film if the narrative is haywire and boring.
While BGM and VFX were the biggest highlights of Tron: Ares, even the cast left the audience disappointed. When one looks at the ensemble of a staggering cast with immense talent, including Jared Leto, the expectations themselves skyrocket. However, unfortunately, they didn't live up to the mark.
It hasn't even been a day since the film was released, and fans are already upset. They took to Google Reviews to share their views on Tron: Ares and shared a series of one-star reviews. A user penned, "Growing up watching Tron, I was thrilled that the story continued. I felt that there were no really intense moments. The soundtrack almost tried to hard in out-doing Legacy and the music came in the oddest times. The plot was relatively predictable with a very flat pace. The trailers depicted the scenes far better than the movies. And the pacing was super odd, there would be an action scene that would do a 180 to peaceful relatively quickly."
A comment read, "What can I say positive, the visuals and action scenes were all beautiful. But the character development and overall plot were dismal. This isn't even in the same ball park of the original Tron and Tron Legacy. Don't waste a penny, wait until it's free on some streaming platform." However, some fans managed their expectations and liked the film for the legacy that it carries. A user stated:
"We are big fans of the Tron series and just watched Tron Ares in 3D. The screen play, pace and storyline were all very good. Acting was great, lighting, technical graphics and score were exactly what we were hoping for. Nine Inch Nails really came through on this one as well, the soundtrack was right on target."
