Popular actor, Dilip Joshi needs no introduction. He is immensely loved for his outstanding acting skills and humble nature. For the unversed, he started his acting journey in the Hindi cinema with the film, Maine Pyar Kiya. Moreover, his character, 'Jethalal Champaklal Gada' in the popular comedy TV show, Taarak Mehta ka Ooltah Chashmah, which made him a household name. However, before starting his journey in this TV show, Dilip was part of several popular films and shows. Now, he revealed how he had drastically lost weight for one of his films.
In a conversation with Mashable India, Dilip Joshi opened up about losing 16 kgs within one and a half months for a 1992 film. He shared that for working in the socio-political feature film, Hun Hunshi Hunshilal, in which he was offered the role of 'Hunshilal', a scientist, he was required to lose weight. The film also starred Renuka Shahane, Manoj Joshi, and Mohan Gokhale, among others. Thus, ahead of working on the film, Dilip performed a rigorous routine and lost weight.

In the same conversation, Dilip mentioned that he followed a tough schedule for one and a half months. Moreover, he would run for hours across the whole Marine Drive in the rain. Then, he used to jog the whole way back, and all of these helped him lose 16 kg drastically. However, he also shared that he used to enjoy the jog. Dilip revealed:
"I used to go to work, change at the swimming club and run across the whole Marine Drive, until (Hotel) Oberoi in the rain, and go back. I would jog the whole way and it used to take me 45 minutes. I lost 16 kgs in one and a half months. It used to be so much fun. The sun was setting and there would be a slight drizzle. The clouds used to look so beautiful."
On March 31, 2023, the Ambani family hosted a grand opening ceremony for the Nita Mukesh Ambani Culture Centre. The ceremony was also attended by Dilip Joshi along with his wife, Jaymala Joshi. However, as soon as he graced the event, the shutterbugs addressed him as 'Jetha Bhai' instead of calling him out by his name. Soon, the video featuring the moment went viral on social media then. For the function, Dilip and his wife, Jaymala twinned in black ensembles. The actor donned a black-hued sequin kurta and teamed it with a straight pyjama. On the other hand, his wifey looked beautiful in a matching-hued suit set. She paired it with a tri-coloured dupatta, minimal makeup and a clutch.

Dilip Joshi's character, 'Jethalal Champaklal Gada,' is undoubtedly the soul of TMKOC. From his hilarious expressions, comic timing or experimenting with his character arc, 'Jethalal' is undoubtedly the most-loved character on the show. For this, Dilip is also one of the highest-paid actors in the show, and as per multiple reports, he earns around Rs. 1.5 lakh per episode. However, there was a time when Dilip didn't have any work on his hands and was going through a major financial crunch. However, after a long wait, he finally got a chance to play a small role in a daily soap. But when he accepted it, he was offered to play 'Champaklal Jayantilal Gada' or 'Jethalal'.
Although, initially, Dilip rejected the offer to work in Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah, as he was busy working on the show, which he got after being unemployed for a year. But after some months, the show in which Dilip was working was shut down, and the actor had contacted the TMKOC's producer, Asit Kumarr Modi, and told him that he would like to audition for the role of 'Jethalal'. The show's makers agreed, and the rest is history.
