Actor, Gurucharan Singh, best known for his role as ‘Roshan Singh Sodhi’ in the popular sitcom, Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah, has been making headlines recently for his health and financial struggles. The actor, who had been in critical condition after refraining from eating or drinking for months, has finally received a much-needed lifeline from his close friend, Bhakti Soni.
Gurucharan, who had been abstaining from food and water since May 2024, finally decided to eat solid food after months of physical and emotional strain. Hospitalised on January 7, 2025, he has now resumed eating, thanks to the brand deal secured by his friend, Bhakti Soni. In an interview with TOI, Bhakti revealed the good news that the actor has finally broken his fast and shared:
"I have got Gurucharan Singh a brand deal of Rs. 13 lakh, which has been given to him. After that, he agreed to break his fast. He will be coming to Mumbai by the end of the month to shoot for the same.”
Bhakti revealed how she had been finding opportunities for Gurucharan to get back on track, and gladly shared that the actor would start working on the new project soon. While her unwavering support has been a game-changer for Gurucharan, she expressed disappointment at the lack of help from others, including members of the Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah team who checked in on him. However, despite inquiries about his health, financial assistance was absent. Talking about his colleagues from TMKOC, Bhakti revealed:
"I had helped him with another Rs. 33 lakh. I just fail to understand - the man is almost dying, but nobody came forward to help him… Nobody asked if he needed any financial support.”
Earlier, it was revealed that Gurucharan had stopped drinking water for 19 days, leading to severe dehydration and eventual hospitalisation. The actor’s deteriorating health became a concern for fans, who rallied around him with prayers and wishes for his recovery. Earlier, in an interview with Zoom, Jennifer Mistry, who played his on-screen wife, opened up about past financial requests from Gurucharan. She recalled that though he asked for financial help, he later refrained from it. Jennifer shared:
“Gurucharan Singh had once asked me to help him with Rs 1 lakh to clear his credit card dues. I agreed to give it to him, but he later told me that he didn’t want it right now. He told me, ‘I will let you know once I need it.’ Later, he didn’t call me. After a few days, he asked me for Rs 17 lakh. Unfortunately, I had to use that Rs 1 lakh for my personal due to some financial crunch. I had also told him that I didn’t have this much amount. I couldn’t help him.”
Gurucharan also took to his IG handle to thank his fans and supporters, sharing that his wish of securing Rs. 13 lakh had finally been fulfilled. Thanks to Bhakti Soni’s efforts, the actor now has a fresh opportunity to rebuild his life and career.
