Kristy and Jim Larsen got engaged on February 29, 2012, but were not in a rush to get married.
However, things changed when Kristy’s mother was diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer in September, 2014. So, when Billy Jo, Kristy’s mother confessed to having a bucket list: a mother-daughter trip, fly in Alaska Airlines where Kristy had been working for 11 years, and see Jim and Kristy get married, this daughter wanted to grant her whatever her mum wished! And here is how she fulfilled her mom's wishes.

After the diagnosis and ongoing treatment, Billy Jo’s condition improved gradually. Earlier this year in February she expressed her desire to meet the couple in Seattle, and that too exactly on February 19. Once the doctor gave her an 11-day clearance to fly, Kristy’s brain worked a magical plan.
Talking to BuzzFeed she said:
“Then while I was driving home from a redeye, it hit me — maybe Alaska will let us get married on the plane. That LA-Seattle route has a lot of meaning for us, so it seemed like the perfect way to do it.”
Things worked out as per the plan, and the COO of Alaska Airlines gave Stratton the permission to co-opt a February 19 wedding- mid-air!
Hey, let us also tell you that the bride designed her own wedding heels that looked like the airline’s new livery line and wrote LS21916 which stood for the couple’s initials and the wedding date and year.

And besides the rings they were to exchange, she even customised a set of Airline wings for the wedding.
She even found a section of a map with an airport called Larsen to be put in the centre of her husband’s wings and a map section with North Star in hers because she thinks Jim is her North Star. Talk about details and being thoughtful, eh?
Now, why she chose this particular flight was because she had met her now husband on a layover from Los Angeles to Seattle. So obviously, it made sense as this was special to both!
With the groom-to-be, pastor, best friend and mum on-board, a series of events began to unfold within an hour into the journey from Los Angeles to Seattle. This was a total surprise for the passengers as they were attending a wedding to which they hadn’t been invited to!

Just before the ceremony, there was a special announcement made and the flight attendants distributed bubbles, chocolates and conversation hearts, the first candy Larsen ever gave Stratton! Stratton’s best friend did not mind playing the flower girl role at all, and spreading smiles and petals began to walk down the aisle.
Kristy’s mother was sitting in the front row and saw the couple exchange rings and wings and saying ‘Yes, I do’ to each other! It surely must have been such an overwhelming moment for the mother.
This was not all. The couple were surprised at the Seattle Airport where a cake was waiting for them!
The next day the couple held a wedding reception with about 60 guests invited. The two spent the next few days with Billy Jo showing her around the city!
About her wedding, Kristy said:
“I was really touched and overwhelmed by the amount of love and joy flooding through the cabin. Not only did they make the day even more special for me, but for my mom as well."
