Supreme Court Order Samay Raina To Invite Specially Abled People On His Shows Amid 'IGL' Controversy

After the controversy around Samay Raina's 'India's Got Latent', the Supreme Court has ordered stand-up comedians to invite and raise funds for specially abled people.

Supreme Court Order Samay Raina To Invite Specially Abled People On His Shows Amid 'IGL' Controversy

Samay Raina is a popular stand-up comedian, who faced legal tensions in early 2025, for his comedy show, India's Got Latent. While the show was loved by many, some controversial statements by Ranveer Allahbadia and Apoorva Mukhija led to a court case and removal of episodes. However, a few months ago, Samay Raina announced the return of India’s Got Latent. Well, amid that the Supreme Court has asked the comedian to invite specially-abled people on his shows. 

Supreme Court orders comedians to raise funds for the treatment of specially-challenged people

Recently, the Supreme Court ordered stand-up comedian, Samay Raina and others to help disabled people through their platforms. The Supreme Court directed the comedians to invite specially challenged people on their show and help raise funds for their treatment through their huge fan following. Chief Justice Surya Kant was quoted as saying:

"We hope and expect that such few memorable events will take place before we hear the matter next. It’s a social burden we are putting on you, not a penal burden. You are all well-placed persons in society. If you have become too popular, then share it with others."

The case was filed by Cure SMA Foundation

For the unversed, in early 2025, the Cura SMA Foundation filed a plea against Samay Raina and other comedians for their jokes on people with disabilities, including children suffering from spinal muscular atrophy, on his show, India's Got Latent. Soon, the case reached the court. Initially, the court has ordered all the comedians involved in this matter to issue a public apology on their social media handles. And now, the court wants them to use their platform and fame to help those people.

When Samay Raina apologised for his hurtful remarks

For those who don’t know, in October 2025, Samay Raina had taken to his social media handle and publicly apologised to all the disabled people for hurting their feelings by cracking jokes on them during his shows. Samay, along with Vipul Goyal, Balraj Ghai, Sonali Thakkar and Nishant Tanwar further mentioned that they would try their best to spread awareness about them. Samay had shared:

"Today is my birthday and instead of celebrating just myself, I want to use this day- the most special day of the year for me- to apologize to the people with disabilities. We, Samay Raina, Vipul Goyal, Sonali Thakkar, Nishant Tanwar, Balraj Ghai, deeply regret the pain caused due to our show. Going forward, we will be more mindful and do our best to spread awareness about the challenges faced by the community. Your strength inspires us to grow. With respect and gratitude, Samay, Vipul Goyal, Balraj Ghai, Sonali Thakkar, Nishant Tanwar."

More about the India’s Got Latent controversy

The legal issue started when clips from Samay Raina's show, India's Got Latent went viral on social media. The clip featuring Samay Raina, Ranveer Allahbadia, Ashish Chanchalani and Apoorva Mukhija grabbed attention for their insensitive jokes about people with disabilities and some hurtful remarks. Soon, the matter reached the Supreme Court. In response to this, Samay Raina removed all the episodes from his channel. Apart from Samay, even Apoorva and Ranveer remained away from social media during that time.
