Do you know which the wealthiest dynasty in Bollywood is? While you might think of families like the Kapoors, Khans, Chopras and Johars when we talk about the wealthiest families of B-town you’re wrong. Granted that they are some of the biggest names, it is the Kumar family, owners of T-Series, who take the crown when it comes to wealth. Today, let us tell you a little about the T-Series owners, Kumars’ journey from fruit vendors to one of India’s most powerful entertainment empires.
While business tycoons like the Adanis and Ambanis still hold the topmost positions in terms of wealth, the Kumar family topped the list of Bollywood families. According to the Hurun India Rich List 2024, the Kumar family, owners of T-Series, are at the frontline with a net worth that has soared to an incredible Rs. 10,000 crore.

Insider reports claim that film producer, Bhushan Kumar alone is responsible for up to 80% of the family's Rs 10,000 crore empire. The remaining portion of the wealth goes to Bhushan’s uncle and co-owner of T-Series, Krishan Kumar. The Kumar sisters, Tulsi Kumar and Khushali Kumar, have respective net worths of Rs. 250 crore and Rs. 100 crore.
There’s no doubt when we say that the T-Series is one of the biggest and most powerful entertainment empires in India at present. However, behind this success is an inspiring tale of humble beginnings, vision and perseverance.
The founder of T-Series, Gulshan Kumar, had humble beginnings as a mere fruit vendor who sold fruit juices on the streets of Delhi. His life took a turn when he worked on his vision and acquired a small shop in 1983 that sold music cassettes. From thereon, it was a journey uphill: It was not long before Gulshan launched his very own record label, Super Cassettes, which was later rebranded as T-Series. This determination ultimately laid the foundation for a multimedia empire.
Gulshan’s son, Bhushan Kumar took over the company after his father’s untimely death. It was Bhushan who led T-Series to become the largest music and film production company in India. Rather than limiting the services to music, Bhushan took it up a notch and expanded the brand’s reach to movie production, music streaming, and even education, with the Gulshan Kumar Film & Television Institute. T-Series now produces big-budget Bollywood films and blockbuster soundtracks, and has partnerships that span the globe.
T-Series surpasses the wealth of other influential Bollywood dynasties, including Aditya Chopra’s family (estimated at Rs. 8,000 crore) and Shah Rukh Khan’s (around Rs. 7,500 crore). Bhushan almost single-handedly took his family business to take over the industry and even beat Yash Raj Films with its constant film production and sprawling digital influence.
Bhushan Kumar married Divya Khossla back in 2005 and they have a son, Ruhaan. His latest production, Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3, starring Kartik Aaryan, Tripti Dimrii, Vidya Balan and Madhuri Dixit, premiered in theatres on November 1, 2024. The film has been a major hit at the box office, with its current gross collection worldwide standing at around Rs. 327.75 crores.
