The film franchise, Mortal Kombat, has been one of the most iconic films in the world of action and fantasy. The film has built a strong fan base across generations. Unfortunately, there is bad news for fans, who were eagerly waiting for Mortal Kombat II, which is they will have to wait for a little longer. The makers have delayed its release from October 24, 2025 to May 15, 2026. Read on to know the reason for its delay.
Recently, the official Instagram page of Mortal Kombat movie announced the new date for their film. According to multiple reports, the reason for the delay is competition from other powerful films. Originally, Mortal Kombat was planned to release in October 2025, along with a Bruce Springsteen biopic and a Colleen Hoover adaptation. Reportedly, the makers of Mortal Kombat wanted a better week to release their film, so that it can perform better. Warner Bros. and New Line Cinema announced the release date with a message:
"The tournament demands a new time and place, worthy of its spectacle. Mortal Kombat II - only in theaters May 15, 2026."
Mortal Kombat II is the sequel to the 2021 film, Mortal Kombat, which is inspired by the hit video game series. The first movie showed how Earth's warriors like 'Cole Young', 'Sonya Blade' and 'Kano' came together to fight against Outworld's fighters. The first film received a lot of love because of its action and martial arts.
The upcoming sequel has generated a lot of excitement among fans since its trailer release. Some users believe that this time the film will have more powerful action scenes. The trailer of the film released in July, 2025, and within hours it broke several records, as it crossed 107 million views. The film brings back Simon McQuoid as the director and it stars talented actors Lewis Tan, Jessica McNamee, Mehcad Brooks, Josh Lawson, Karl Urban and more.

Lewis Tan was born on February 4, 1987, in England. His mother, Joanne Cassidy is a former fashion model and his father, Philip Tan is a martial artist. Lewis started his film career by performing stunts in major films like The Hangover Part III and Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End. Later, he decided to pursue acting more seriously. He rose to fame with his role in Netflix's Iron Fist and then appeared as the lead in Into the Badlands. Over the years, he worked in films like Deadpool 2, Wu Assassins, Fistful of Vengeance, Shadow and Bone and Cobra Kai.
