'The Paper' Review: Makers Release Trailer For 'The Office' Spinoff And It's Everything We Hoped For

The Office is by far one of the most-loved sitcoms globally, offering a complete package with catchy dialogues and a relatable storyline. So when the makers dropped hints about a spinoff, fans were left ecstatic. Now, Peacock has released the first official trailer for The Paper, and it is everything the audience had hoped for.

The Paper is a brand new series with the essence of the beloved show, The Office

The Paper is a mockumentary series set in the same universe as the beloved Dunder Mifflin-ites at the Scranton branch. The new comedy show revolves around the same documentary crew that has found a new 'paper-related' subject several years later. According to the trailer, the team discovered the historic yet struggling Ohio newspaper, the Toledo Truth Teller, and decides to turn it over.

The trailer sets the tone for the lack of quality at the newspaper, as the employee, 'Ken' essayed by Tim Key, describes the paper. One of the cameras further catches garbage being scraped off a folded-up Truth Teller newspaper. He stated:

"Enervate sells products made of paper: Toilet tissue, toilet seat protectors and local newspapers — and that is in order of quality."

Further, the viewers are introduced to 'Cue Ned Sampson' (Domhnall Gleeson), the new hopeful editor in chief, who is brought in to try and revive the newsroom. Well, and it is definitely going to be a ride, the audience can tell that and 'Cue' knows it as well, as he admits the paper 'sucks' compared to other papers, but vows to make it better by shaking things up. So, as the team find the willingness, effort, resources and ideas to improve the paper, it is most definitely going to be one rollercoaster of a ride.

What are netizens thinking of the show?

Netizens are excited for the spinoff. A user wrote, "I swear the Lore of Oscar Martinez will be talked about for generations. 'First Dunder Mifflin, Now The Toledo Truth Teller. I'm all for it." Another penned, "Definitely made me giggle seeing Oscar have a ptsd moment with/ the camera crew and pretty excited to see Domhnall Gleeson as lead, so I'm cautiously optimistic." A comment read, "I’m pretty sure someone is bound to make a cameo in the show. If it’s renewed for more seasons. I doubt Steve will come back. But John and Rainn are 50/50. But more than likely, Rainn will make a cameo." A commenter said, "If Tim Key is as good a boss as he was a Taskmaster contestant, then this looks promisingly chaotic."
