The Bengal Files, a political drama movie by Vivek Agnihotri, was released on September 5, 2025, in theatres. The movie was banned in West Bengal due to the political unrest. However, the film was then screened at Kolkata's National Library of India, and now the makers have shared the OTT release date of the movie. Well, the OTT release date announcement has come two months after The Bengal Files was released in the theatres.
Well, there is some good news for The Bengal Files movie lovers. In case you have missed the movie, you can watch it on Zee 5 on November 21, 2025. You can now watch The Bengal Files with your OTTplay Premium package. Those who missed out on the nerve-wracking film can now watch it right from the comfort of their homes.

Vivek Agnihotri's third movie trilogy is The Bengal Files. His earlier two movies were, The Kashmir Files and also The Tashkent Files. For those who do not know, The Bengal Files has been a political drama movie related to the genocide of the Hindus who were once located in East Bengal, just like before the partition of India. It highlighted the Direct Action Day and also the Noakhali riots.

Vivek Agnihotri, earlier in a media statement, shared that The Bengal Files is not just a movie, but it is also a reminder of the chapter in history that was long forgotten. He shared his happiness that, since the movie will be released on an OTT platform, people will be more aware of the pain of Aamar Sonar Bangla. Vivek shared in the interview:
"The Bengal Files is not just a film; it’s a reminder. It’s about the forgotten chapters of our collective conscience and the price of silence. Through this story, we wanted to bring Bengal’s pain, courage and truth to the forefront. I’m glad that, through ZEE5, this story will now reach every home — every viewer who wants to know what really happened.”

Vivek Agnihotri's The Bengal Files, which featured Mithun Chakraborty and Anupam Kher as Mahatma Gandhi, had crossed Rs. 19.59 crore at the domestic box office. The movie became the second-highest-grossing film after The Kashmir Files. However, The Bengal Files had an opening below expectations and just earned like Rs. 1.75 crore in the first day. The movie struggled with competition, and the audience traction was weak in all things. The buried voices of Bengal have now found the fire, was the caption inserted by the makers during the OTT release announcement of the movie.

However, The Bengal Files did surpass The Tashkent Files. Well, the predecessor, The Kashmir Files of Vivek Agnihotri, was like a blockbuster. The Bengal Files could not create the magic like the earlier movies of his trilogy despite having Mithun Chakraborty, Anupam Kher, Pallavi Joshi, Saswata Chatterjee, and Darshan Kumarr in pivotal roles. Speaking more of The Bengal Files, it showcases the communal violence that took place back in the 1950s, especially on August 16, 1946. There was genocide, communal violence, and reportedly, 40,000 Hindus lost their lives, and families were wiped out.
