Before the commencement of their telly show, Sara Akash, Sai and Shakti had an idea about each other with certain connotations attached to it.
Since, Sai's parents are filmmakers, Shakti also thought of her as a brat. And, because Shakti had done a few serials before Sara Akash, Sai considered him as someone who is proud of his achievements. Sai said that she found him to be quite arrogant.
From Shakti's perspective, Sai got everything served on a silver platter and knew nothing about struggle. She was a brat. (He still fell in love with her, though!)

Apart from Shakti, it was Sai's mother who realised that what they shared was more than friendship. So, one day her mum called her up and changed Sai's world altogether.
As Sai recalls:
"I had a long talk with my mom and she could see that I used to miss him (Shakti) too much whenever he was not around. Suddenly she popped the question, 'What when the serial gets over?' That hit me real hard. I realised yehi pyaar hai."
Now, both of them were on the same page. They had mutual feelings, but Sai was in a committed relationship. It was a tough call on her part, but she took the right decision. She let off Chaitanya, following her feelings for Shakti.
Sai shares:
"I realised we (her and Chaitanya) were not made for each other. There was definitely some chemistry between Shakti and me from the beginning, which, however, we failed to realise, was much more than just chemistry."

"Sai is a very genuine person. Her honesty and clean heart attracted me to her. I decided that I could not lose her and that we must settle down quickly."
If you ask Sai what qualities of Shakti made her say 'yes', she says:
"He has so many qualities that I cannot name any single quality. I would only say that he is a very balanced individual, very passionate about life and work. He is a very strong person and a man of convictions!"
After a courtship of merely two months, the couple exchanged diamond studded platinum bands on January 14, 2005, announcing their engagement to the world. They tied the knot on January 30, 2005, in a Maharashtrian style wedding. The wedding was a low key affair, and took place at 'Time and Again', Lokhandwala, Mumbai. The reception party was organised at Army Club, Juhu, Mumbai. Many television biggies came to bless the couple.

For the wedding, the couple opted for designer wear. Sai wore a pink-coloured lehenga and Shakti wore a cream-coloured kurta pajama. Since the reception was scheduled for the evening, the colours of the outfit were carefully selected. Sai chose a dark blue and yellow-coloured saree and Shakti wore a beige-coloured formal suit.
Recollecting the memories of their D-day, Sai gushes:
"The whole wedding was a roller coaster ride as we got married very quickly-- it was a typical ‘chat mangani pat byah’ affair for us. That's what Shakti keeps on telling me that our love-story was shorter and quicker than our love-story in the serial 'Saara Akash'. So, now when I recollect the whole thing... I find it all so funny!"

"I had taken a conscious break from acting to take care of my baby girl. Now she is grown a little, so I can manage both. Also, Udaan appealed to me because it's not structured as a typical saas-bahu serial. When Gurudev Bhalla (producer) narrated the story to me, I had tears in my eyes. I am may not have reacted the same way earlier, but now that I am a mother I was completely moved."
