When 'Aggie Wiggs' found out her neighbour' Nile Jarvis' was a suspected murderer. She didn't run, hide, or even keep her distance. The acclaimed author offered to write 'Nile's' biography as a challenge. However, like any sane person could've guessed, it didn't go as planned and 'Aggie' soon found herself in a mess that was far more than what she bargained for. However, the question lies: Did 'Nile' really murder his wife? Let's find out.
'Aggie Wiggs' is sucked into the world of 'Nile's' corrupt world like a meteor that accidentally ended up near the black hole. However, she tried to get to the bottom of whether the real estate tycoon really murdered his wife, 'Madison', but instead of one skeleton in his closet, 'Aggie' finds a multitude of them. Nonetheless, she is forced to confront not just the inner evil of her enigmatic neighbour, but also her own darker urges. Will she fight the demons on the outside, or the 'Beast In Her'?

'Aggie Wiggs's' son, 'Cooper' lost his life in a tragic car accident involving a local teenager, 'Teddy' years before the show picks up. However, 'Aggie' is convinced 'Teddy' was drunk during the accident, but doesn't have any evidence. The Beast in Me begins by addressing the grief-stricken mother, who is struggling to write a book about the friendship between Ruth Bader Ginsburg and Antonin Scalia. 'Aggie's' Pulitzer-winning days are long past.

However, when 'Cooper's' death anniversary comes around, she decides to visit his grave and finds 'Teddy' there. The broken-hearted mother loses her cool and flies into a rage. For showrunner, writer, and executive producer Howard Gordon, 'Aggie's' bereavement forms the show's emotional centre. Which later rolls into a chaotic meltdown, which we have all glimpsed in the trailer.

'Aggie's' pain is interrupted once again when 'Nile Jarvis' and his new wife 'Nina' move next door. However, she soon finds herself on the couple's bad side when she pushes back on his desire to mow down a path through their shared forest. While the man is not one to 'hold a grudge', his wife has been missing for years, and 'Nile' was heavily eyed for the crime, even though he was never arrested. The real estate mogul decides to offer an olive branch and invites 'Aggie' to lunch, where things get more complicated. How? Well, in the words of 'Nile' aka Mathew Rhys:

"There's this back and forth between the two of them, about being vulnerable and then trying to intimidate. It's a real smorgasbord, because they're doing everything. They're at times flirting, at times kind of leaning in, putting walls up."
'Aggie' and 'Nile' bond over their shared 'bloodlust'. And by the end of lunch, they are compelled to see each other again. By the end of Episode 1, we can already see a couple of revelations complicate 'Aggie' and 'Nile's' blossoming partnership. First, a man named 'Brian Abbott' knocks on 'Aggie's' door in the middle of a storm. Clearly intoxicated and claiming to be an FBI agent, who warned her to stay away from 'Nile'. Further, 'Shelly' calls 'Aggie' to tell her about 'Teddy's' disappearance, leaving her in shock, mumbling, "What did you do?" to 'Nile' or herself, we don't know.

As if the red flags weren't red enough, 'Aggie' decided to write 'Nile's' biography. Why? To pivot from her Supreme Court slog, and because it will make her literary agent, 'Carol', happy, and give her an opportunity to investigate the disappearance of 'Teddy'. While also giving her more time with 'Nile', to explore whatever twisted relationship was forming between them. 'Nile' and 'Nina' agree to the book, but not before his fixer, his uncle "Wrecking Ball" 'Rick', searches her home, bringing the show to a completely different game.
The show soon introduces 'Brian Abbott', an FBI agent who secretly continues investigating 'Nile' despite being warned against it. He works with 'Aggie', who suspects 'Nile's' involvement in 'Teddy's' disappearance. However, soon she gets a visit from 'Nile' and his father, 'Martin' and 'Brian' sees it as the opportunity to hack 'Nile's' computer. Nonetheless, instead of location data, he finds a live video of 'Teddy' being held captive. The agent confronts 'Nile', who ends up killing him as 'Aggie' remains blissfully unaware of what's going on.

As 'Aggie's' relationship with 'Nile' grows more complicated with stolen moments, she uncovers more about 'Madison' and finds out that the latter's parents have financial motives for insisting 'Nile' is innocent. 'Madison's' journal reveals her "suicide note" was from an earlier attempt, not the night she died. Leading 'Aggie' to realise that 'Nile' IS the killer. However, as she attempts to contact 'Brian', unaware he is already dead, she and 'Erika' discover the stream of 'Teddy's' captivity.

'Aggie' returns home but only to find 'Teddy' strangled by 'Nile'. Episode 7 reveals the truth about 'Madison', who was an FBI mole investigating 'Nile's' use of cartel money. After 'Nina' accidentally exposes 'Madison's' betrayal, 'Nile' murders her in a violent rage, and his father and uncle cover it up by burying her in the Jarvis Yards foundation.
However, the biggest question remains: how did 'Nile' even get caught? Well, as the investigation tightens, 'Aggie' appeals to 'Nina', who is pregnant with 'Nile's' child. The latter ultimately confronts 'Nile' and secretly records his confession, and exposes him publicly. 'Nile' eventually pleads guilty. After one final manipulative meeting with 'Aggie', 'Nile' is stabbed to death in prison, arranged by none other than 'Uncle Rick'.
