Nikil Viswanathan and Tara Viswanathan are one of the most famous siblings in the business space. The reason behind this is the fact that they’re CEOs of reputed companies, Alchemy and Rupa Health. Nikil and Tara’s parents, Balu and Usha Viswanathan left their cushy professional careers in order to pursue their entrepreneurship aspirations. Right from an early age, Balu and Usha Viswanathan gave their children the right amount of exposure to the psychology and dynamics of the business world.
In an old interview with CNBC, Nikil and Tara Viswanathan’s mother, Usha Viswanathan admitted that although her kids were exposed to business but she never thought that they would become entrepreneurs. Usha added that she and her husband, Balu Viswanathan’s sole ambition was to raise amazing human beings.

For the uninitiated, Balu and Usha Viswanathan were leading a simple and sorted life with their children. When Balu and Usha thought of leaving their jobs and starting a business, the couple’s children, Nikil and Tara Viswanathan were just mere kids. It was a tough decision for Usha and Balu to venture into business despite having a secured job, but because they were reluctant to become entrepreneurs, they pursued it. The success stories of Silicon Valley inspired the couple.
Usha and Balu Viswanathan launched a tech consulting company, Starnik, and took advantage of the late 1990s internet boom. Usha and Balu had no prior experience in entrepreneurship, and this is why they suffered a series of major obstacles in their journey. However, the struggles transformed into valuable lessons for them and their young children, who had seen their persistent parents succeed eventually. Fast forward to 2024, Usha and Balu still run Starnik despite their children, Nikil and Tara Viswanathan, being incredibly famous in their respective business ventures.
