Taimur And Jehangir Ali Khan Have A Blood Relation With Nobel Laureate, Rabindranath Tagore

Rabindranath Tagore was the first non-European to win a Nobel Prize in literature in 1913. He not only gave some of the finest poetry, prose and music but also wrote the Indian national anthem, Jana Gana Mana, which gives goosebumps to every citizen of the nation each time it is sung. Moreover, he also penned another melody, Amar Shonar Bangla, which also went on to become Bangladesh’s National Anthem. Now, we got to know about a blood connection between the Nobel laureate and the immensely popular celebrity kids, Taimur Ali Khan and Jehangir Ali Khan.

Sons of Saif Ali Khan and Kareena Kapoor, Taimur and Jehangir have been grabbing attention ever since they were born. Paparazzi and netizens can’t stop drooling over the little ones' cutesy looks and antics. Notably, the Pataudi princes have the royal charm of their khandaan and also inherited pure cuteness from their families. But besides being Pataudis or Kapoors, Taimur and Jehangir are also distinctively related to Rabindranath Tagore.

Sharmila Tagore's parents' relations with Rabindranath Tagore

Taimur and Jehangir's paternal grandmother, Sharmila Tagore converted to Islam before marrying the ace cricketer-cum-former Nawab of Pataudi, Mansoor Ali Khan, and adopted a new name, Ayesha Sultana Khan. However, Sharmila was born in Hyderabad to a general manager in the British India Corporation, Gitindranath Tagore and his wife, Ira. Interestingly, both her parents were related to Rabindranath Tagore.

According to a report in the Free Press Journal, Sharmila’s father, Gitindranath, was the grandson of the renowned painter from Bengal, Gaganendranath Tagore. Again, Gaganendranath's father was Rabindranath Tagore's cousin. Henceforth, Sharmila’s great-great-grandfather and Rabindranath Tagore were cousins. On the other hand, Sharmila’s mother, Ira was the granddaughter of the Rabindranath Tagore’s brother, Dwijendranath. So, Taimur and Jehangir became the great great grandsons of Rabindranath Tagore’s brother, Dwijendranath.

Saif Ali Khan once mentioned his son, Taimur Ali Khan is a 'genetic treasure trove'

Earlier, in an interview, Sharmila mentioned that she was born three years after Rabindranath Tagore’s demise. However, she feels privileged to have been born into such a family, and her surname is part of her heritage. In another interview with IANS, Saif Ali Khan once revealed the connection between his son, Taimur Ali Khan and their family's royal figures. He shared:

“He (Taimur) is a genetic treasure trove, he is. He has got a bit of Rabindranath Tagore, he is a bit of Raj Kapoor, a bit of Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi, a little bit of Bhopal. It's beyond me.”
