Tahira Kashyap is a writer and filmmaker. She is the author of several bestselling books, including The 12 Commandments Of Being A Woman. Over the years, she has been extremely vocal about her diagnosis of breast cancer and advocated the importance of regular mammograms. While her cancer was in remission for the past seven years, things took a turn, and the filmmaker recently shared that the cancer has relapsed. She has since been sharing regular updates on her journey. 

Tahira Kashyap revealed which song played in her head before surgery 

Tahira Kashyap showed great determination and courage as she affirmed that she is ready for another battle with the disease. She is a true warrior, and her husband and actor, Ayushmann Khurrana, has shown immense support for her. With the well wishes of her friends and family, the writer has begun her treatment. However, on April 11, 2025, she shared another update on her journey. Tahira took to her Instagram handle and shared three notes; she paired each of the notes with a song and captioned the post, "Hospitals and music are deeply and surgically connected! #HospitalChronicles (Read each one with its music piece)."

Tahira Kashyap's journey has been both commendable and eye-opening. At the same time, her strength speaks volumes for the strength a person possesses, it also gives us a reality check about taking our health more seriously and taking necessary precautions to maintain it. However, this post was not just an update but also a testament to how cinema can play an important role in what one is going through. In her first note, she shared how her doctor was playing the song, Kal Ho Na Ho in an attempt to lighten the mood and stated:

"As I entered the scanning and imaging area, the doc perhaps in his attempt to make the mood lighter had his playlist on. This (Kal Ho Na Ho) was the song that was playing as I lay down ready to be taken inside! I gulped and said, 'Sir I appreciate your gesture but please issey toh band hi kardo!'"

In the following post, Tahira Kashyap shared the song that was playing in her head ahead of her surgery. She revealed that when she saw the trays filled with sharp tools being brought into the OT, the song that kept playing in her head was from the film, Zanjeer. She added that when the anesthesiologist asked her which song she would like to listen to before being put to sleep, the song, Chaaku Chhuriyan Tez Kar Lo kept playing in the loop in her mind. She stated:

"In the OT the lovely anaesthesiologist asked me which song would I like to listen to before beigh knocked out. I saw all the tools coming in and beingh prepped in the trays. This (Chakku Chhuriyan Tez Kar Lo) was the song playing in my head!"

Tahira Kashyap shared how cinema empowers us

In the third note, Tahira Kashyap shared that after the surgery, she was asked by the doctors to walk a few rounds. However, while she was doing so, she came across an old woman who was listening to the love story of an actor and a few minutes later, stumbling ahead of her with some new-found energy. Tahira credited the power of cinema for making such a difference both on and off-screen. She posted the song with a song from the 1991 film, Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikandar. The song was Pehla Nasha. Tahira stated:

"Hours after the surgery the doctor asked me take few rounds around the corridor. Little did I know that I would be privy to other patients choice of consuming news. This 70 year old lady with her room's door ajar was keenly listening to an actor's love life and the disclosure of his recent relationship. Few minutes later I saw her stumbling out of her room racing ahead of me. I can swear I heard her saying 'Agar yeg itna dangal mancha sakten hai toh mai kyon nahi!' I always knew the power of cinema both on and off screen.'"
