Karisma Kapoor's ex-husband, Sunjay Kapur, passed away on June 12, 2025, because of a heart attack. Exactly two months later, Sunjay's sister, Mandhira Kapur, launched an attack on the people, including the auto parts maker of Sona Comstar, who reportedly harassed their 80-year-old mom, Rani Kapur. Now, Sunjay's third wife, Priya Sachdev, has become the non-executive director amid rising tensions in the family. Now, Mandhira shared that Rani is not at all ready to stay with Priya in the house.
Sona Comstar was founded by Rani's husband, Surinder Kapur, while Sunjay was the chairman. Mandhira sat down for an interview with ANI, in which she revealed that Sunjay's wife, Priya, has asked Rani to move in with her at the Delhi house, but for Rani, it is impractical to even think of the same. Mandhira shared that she has not yet come out of the grief and is still coming to terms with the fact that she lost her son. Mandhira shared:
“I think right now it’s very tough for her even to go to that house. It is one thing that she got through after dad died, and to go back there with her son gone, it is going to be very hard for her to walk into that house. She’s not emotionally ready to face the fact that she has lost her son."
Rani Kapur had earlier written a grieving letter to the board and shareholders, not just as a mother facing the loss of her son, but also as the head of the Kapur family. Rani shared that she was the largest shareholder of Sona Comstar and that she was not allowed to represent herself in the company, citing mismanagement and betrayal towards her. Rani also alleged that she was forced to sign many unknown documents that supported the nomination of her daughter-in-law, Priya Sachdev Kapur, as a non-executive director in the Sona group.
Rani's daughter, Mandhira, shared in the interview that it was harsh to think that her mother, at the age of 80, received a letter stating she had no connection to the company she had founded. Mandhira wanted her mom, Rani, to be respected simply because Sona Group was founded by her dad, Surinder. Rani had also penned a letter to SEBI, requesting the postponement of Sona Comstar’s Annual General Meeting. She spoke of the sudden and suspicious demise of her son, Sunjay. However, Rani's objections were overlooked and Priya was appointed as the new non-executive director. Mandhira shared:
“They started with Sona. My dad worked with her. His father-in-law left everything. Our family moved to Delhi where we actually went for family therapy because we hated moving to Delhi. That’s what we’ve been through. And today you’re telling this 80-year-old woman who’s lost everything that she has nothing to do with this company? I mean, think about it. Is that fair? This is the legacy that my father built. Today, we’re being told we are not allowed to have this legacy."
