Sunjay Kapur's Sister, Mandhira Opens Up About His Divorce With Karisma Kapoor, 'They Had A Bad...'

Within just a month, his family found itself in a legal battle over his Rs. 30,000 crore estate. Amid all the chaos, Sunjay's sister, Mandhira Kapur, opened up about his most talked-about divorce with Bollywood actress, Karisma Kapoor. In fact, she revealed an unheard detail involving her brother and his third wife, Priya Sachdev.

After Sunjay Kapur and Karisma Kapoor’s highly publicised divorce in 2016, several rumours about their strained relationship were circulating on the internet. One such instance was Karisma Kapoor being mistreated in her marriage to the UK-based businessman. In a recent conversation with InControversial Podcast, Sunjay's sister, Mandhira Kapur, quashed the rumours. She mentioned that the couple had a bad divorce. She also slammed people who called the late businessman a 'womaniser'. She was quoted as saying:

"He didn’t treat Lolo badly. Yes, they had a bad divorce. All divorces are bad. Show me one divorce that’s not, unless both are having affairs and they leave amicably. Even I had a bad divorce. So, please let’s not go to the rubbish people want to talk and malign others. Hold it together, be human, and stand by what’s right. Stop maligning the kids, the ex-wife, the mother, and the sisters."

In the same conversation, Mandhira Kapur shared that Priya Sachdev, Sunjay’s widow, portrayed a different image before marriage. But things changed after their wedding. Mandhira revealed that she was the one who convinced her father to agree to their marriage. She later called herself a 'fool'. She was quoted as saying:

"What she showed she was before her marriage with my brother has completely changed after the marriage. I’m the one who said to my dad, ‘If he’s happy, let it be.’ I feel like a fool to have done that."

In October 2025, Mandhira Kapur sat down for an interview with journalist, Vickey Lalwani. During the conversation, she accused Priya Sachdev and called her the reason behind the fallout of Sunjay and Karisma’s marriage. She added how her brother, Sunjay, was obsessed with her kids, Kiaan and Samaira. She was quoted as saying:

"Lolo (Karisma) and Sanjay, my brother, were in a good place, actually. Kiaan was born. My brother was obsessed with his kids. I think for another woman to not care about a woman who's just had a child is in bad taste. To come and disrupt a family is in bad taste. You don't break up a marriage that is trying to work on keeping a family together."

But after 4 years of marriage, the duo decided to part ways and got divorced in 2000. Within 3 years, Sunjay gave love another chance and married Bollywood star, Karisma Kapoor in 2003. The couple had an arranged marriage. In 2005, the duo welcomed their first child, a daughter, Samaira, and in 2010, their second child, a son, Kiaan. 

But their seemingly happy marriage hit a rough patch, and in 2014, the couple filed for divorce. In 2016, their divorce was finalised. Sunjay met his third wife, Priya, when his marriage had started to fall apart. In 2017, Sunjay and Priya tied the knot. Within 1 year of marriage, the couple welcomed a son, Azarias, in 2018.
