NASA astronaut, Sunita Williams returned from space on the morning of March 19, 2025 (IST). The SpaceX capsule carrying her and her colleague, Butch Wilmore touched down on the Florida coast, and her return has left the entire country elated. Amid the news of her return, we came across a video of her ancestral home in Gujarat.
Sunita Williams' father hails from the village of Jhulasan in Gujarat, and the villagers have been over the moon since her safe return to Earth. The entire village gathered together to watch her return live on a television screen that was set near a temple. A video alleged to be of Sunita's ancestral home has surfaced on the internet.
Jhulasan is known as the ancestral home of Williams' father, Deepak Pandya. According to a video shared by India Today, Sunita's ancestral home still stands tall on the streets of Jhulasan. The house, however, has been stripped down of plaster and paint from some areas due to being locked for such a long time.
There are visible cracks in the construction. However, it stands as a testament to Sunita's connection to India. The massive house featured old cement railings, iron-barred windows and some exposed pipes as well. While the house lacks maintenance, as her parents moved to the USA in 1958, it still is a strong building from the time.

Sunita Williams and Butch Wilmore were scheduled to return to Earth after a week. However, after nine months, they returned to Earth from the International Space Station (ISS). While the reasons are still to be clarified, it is speculated to be a blend of technical challenges, schedule changes and politics. Sunita Williams was stuck on the ISS after their faulty Boeing Starliner craft upended what was to be a roughly week-long test mission. Nonetheless, it all ended well as they landed in Florida on March 17, 2025, at 5:57 pm ET (March 19, 2025, 3:27 am IST).

Sunita William's ancestral village, Jhulasan, celebrated the moment of their beloved's return by bursting firecrackers, dancing and chanting Har Har Mahadev. Sunita has constantly been in the thoughts and prayers of the villagers as they awaited her safe return. They even gathered at the temple and performed yagya and offered prayers to the almighty as she was on her way back to earth. The people of Jhulasan lit an akhand jyot for the safe return of Sunita Williams. For the unversed, an akhand jyot is an eternal flame which is lit preferably in an earthen lamp.
Sunita Williams' sister-in-law, Falguni Pandya, described the moment as 'surreal' in a conversation with NDTV. She added that the astronaut and her family will soon be planning a visit to India. She also mentioned that Sunita feels a strong connection to India, especially her father's ancestral village, Jhulasan. She also joked that since Suinta was the first to eat a samosa at the International Space Station, the family would throw a samosa party to celebrate her safe return. She stated:
"We don't have exact dates, but she's definitely going to come to India soon. I hope this year. She feels the love from India and Indians, and I know she will come back. It's just a matter of timing, schedule, and logistics. We are also planning on going on vacation together. There is going to be a lot of family time."
