Sunil Gavaskar Clears His Stand On Virat Kohli's Performance, Says He Never Blamed Anushka Sharma

In August 2020, Indian cricket team’s captain, Virat Kohli and his beautiful wife, Anushka Sharma had given a pleasant surprise to their fans when they had announced the news of their pregnancy. The lovely couple, who has always given major relationship goals to the millennials, never miss a chance to update their fans about their personal lives. Anushka, who has appeared in many of Virat’s matches has always been his loudest cheerleader. But the gorgeous actress has faced backlashes from Virat’s fans on his poor performances many times. Virat, who is in Dubai for the 13th season of IPL and is leading his team, Royal Challengers Bangalore had recently lost his second match to Kings XI Punjab. The cricketer couldn’t do justice to his performance as he could only manage one run before getting out. And looking at his bad form, commentator and veteran cricketer, Sunil Gavaskar had commented on his performance while taking a dig at his actress wife, Anushka Sharma. Since then, Gavaskar had been trolled for his comments on the cricketer’s wife and Anushka herself had tagged it as ‘distasteful’.

In an interview with India Today, Sunil Gavaskar has opened up about his comments on Virat Kohli’s performance and has also stated that he never blamed the cricketer’s wife, Anushka Sharma. Talking about the same, he said, “Firstly, I would like to say it again. Where am I blaming her? I am not blaming her. I am only saying that the video said that she was bowling to Virat. Virat has played only that bowling during the lockdown period. It’s a tennis ball, fun game that people have to pass time during the lockdown. That’s all. Where am I blaming her for Virat’s failures?”

He further shared how he has always praised the cricketer wives for supporting their husbands and stated, “You know me, I am the one who has always batted for wives going with husbands on tour. I am the one that a normal guy going to the office for a 9-5 job, when he comes back home, he comes back to his wife. Similarly, cricketers, when they go out for a tour or even when they are playing at home, why can’t they have their wives with them?” (Also Read: Jacqueline Fernandez Meets Mother, Kim Fernandez After 10 Months And Heads Straight to This Place)

On September 25, 2020, Anushka had expressed her disappointment over Sunil’s comments. She had taken to her IG stories and had questioned him on why he had dragged her in her husband’s game. Her reply could be read as "That, Mr Gavaskar, your message is distasteful is a fact but I would love for you to explain why you thught of making such a sweeping statement on a wife accusing her for her husband's game? I'm sure over the years tou have respected the private lives of every cricketer while commentating on the game. Don't you think you should have equal amount of respect for me and us? I'm sure you can have many other words and sentences in your mind to use to comment on my husband's performance from last night or are your words only relevant if you use my name in the process? It's 2020 and things still don't change for me. When will I stop getting dragged into cricket and stop being used to pass sweeping statements? Respected Mr. Gavaskar, you are a legend whose name stands tall in this gentleman's game. Just wanted to tell you what I felt when I heard you say this."

Anushka Sharma

Owing to Virat Kohli’s poor performance in RCB vs KXIP’s match, Sunil Gavaskar had taken a dig at his lack of practice and had dragged his wife, Anushka Sharma's name in his statement. He had said, "Inhone lockdown me to bas Anushka ki gendon ki practice ki hai. (He has only practised on Anushka's balls during the lockdown)." He was referring to Anushka and Virat playing cricket on their terrace, the footage of which had gone viral during the lockdown. His double-meaning statement had not gone well not only with Anushka, but also with 'Virushka's' fans, as such a derogatory comment wasn't expected from a senior player, according to them. Sunil Gavaskar had faced a lot of backlash on Twitter after his unacceptable comment. (Also Read: Puja Banerjee Twins With Minions, Her Baby Bump And Pregnancy Glow Make Her Look The Cutest)
