When Sridevi Got Secretly Married To Mithun Chakraborty And Was Left Heartbroken

The epic yet tragic love story of the late legendary actress Sridevi with Mithun Chakraborty fascinated everyone. It had hogged the limelight as the duo was reportedly married from 1985 to 1988. However, their affair faced serious complications from Mithun's earlier marriage to Yogeeta Bali. They got married in 1979, and were together for four decades and were blessed with four kids.

Sridevi was that rare actress who had a global fan base of people from all walks of life. The actress, who passed away at 54, started her career when she was a toddler and had done more than 300 films in half a century. The actress reportedly also did not get into movies because of her inability to speak the Hindi language, but then grossed to become one of the highest-paid actresses of her time.

Sridevi and Mithun Chakraborty's affair

Sridevi, like Mithun, had an illustrious career in Bollywood, and their affair always hogged the limelight. It is said that back in the 80's, Mithun and Sridevi were charmed by one another that they had secretly also got married. Mithun was already married to Yogeeta Bali when he fell in love with Sridevi, and they tied the knot. Reports also suggest that Sridevi had tied rakhi to Boney Kapoor as Mithun had doubted he and Sridevi were in love with each other. The duo has done movies like Waqt Ki Awaz, Watan Ke Rakhwale, and many others.

When Sridevi was disturbed by her breakup with Mithun Chakraborty

Veteran actress, Sujata Mehta is known for her movies like Gunaah and Yateem. In an interview with Pinkvilla's Hindi Rush, she revealed that the actress was very disturbed after she broke up with Mithun. She even revealed that the duo was head-over-heels in love and reportedly were also married. In her words:

"She used to be so disturbed but itni professional ke jaise camera on hota tha aur vo kisi ki nahin. She was only for camera par uske baad jaake kone mein vo bhi baith jaati thi zyada maine usko cheda nahin. They were madly in love I suppose so they get married also na shaadi bhi hui thi na uski han aise bolte shaadi bhi hui thi pata nai."

What led to Mithun Chakraborty and Sridevi's breakup

Mithun's wife, Yogeeta had vouched to be with her husband. During that time, second marriages in Bollywood were not uncommon, so Yogeeta was undisturbed. Yogeeta had once even revealed to Star & Style that she was ready to accept Mithun even if the actor took on a second wife. Yogeeta reportedly had even tried to attempt suicide after she came to know about Mithun and Sridevi's secret marriage. Mithun was firm enough not to leave his wife. When the actor was asked if he had seen another woman after his marriage, in an interview with the News 18, Mithun said:

“Sab hi aurat ki taraf nazar uthaake dekhta hoon lekin acchi neeyat se." When asked if the rumours about him were true, he said some were true and some false. “I’m the most… married bachelor."
