Sourav Ganguly debuted for the Indian cricket team on January 11, 1992, in an ODI match against West Indies in Brisbane. Andrew Cummins dismissed the then 19-year-old youngster at just three runs, and he was dropped immediately. Reports were rife that Ganguly was arrogant, and he went back to his domestic team, Bengal Cricket Team and started playing for them. After being dropped out of the national side, while most people thought Sourav's journey was over, he scored heavily in the following Ranji seasons.
Courtesy of scoring 171 runs in the Duleep Trophy, Sourav Ganguly was called by the BCCI, and he was given another chance to prove his worth in the national team. This time, the stage was cricket's mecca, Lord's Cricket Ground and on his debut Test match against England on June 20, 1996, Sourav scored a century after coming up on number 3. The cricketer made 131 runs in 301 balls and stunned the entire cricket world with his genius. He became the first Indian to hit a century on his debut at Lord's, and the rest is history.
In a media interaction on February 20, 2025, Sourav Ganguly confirmed that Bhool Chuk Maaf actor, Rajkummar Rao will play him in his biopic. The former cricketer also added that the film would take more than one year to hit theatres due to scheduling issues between the actor and director. Only a day after he announced the big news, Sourav's fanbase suffered a huge shock on February 21, 2025, when it was reported that his car met with a road accident.
Luckily, by God's grace, Sourav Ganguly escaped the accident unharmed with minor injuries. The collision happened at Dantanpur on the Durgapur Expressway in West Bengal when Sourav was on his way to an event. The former cricketer is currently mentoring the Delhi Capitals Women's Team in the WPL (Women's Premier League) and serving as the Director of cricket at JSW Sports. One day, while playing badminton with his friends, Sourav's shuttlecock entered Dona's home, and it was her chance to speak to him while returning the shuttlecock.
