What began as a whisper in July this year has now transitioned into a full-fledged public romance. After a lot of wait, the couple confirmed their romance to the world in October 2025. As the new relationship continues to make headlines, Justin's ex-wife, Sophie Gregoire now broken her silence by indirectly commenting on his bond. Here's what she has to say.

What did Sophie Gregoire have to say about Justin Trudeau's romance with Katy Perry?

On the recent episode of the Arlene Is Alone podcast, Sophie Gregoire addressed the ongoing attention on her ex-husband, Justin Trudeau and Katy Perry. During the conversation, the show's host, Arlene Dickinson, asked her about the 'publicness of what Justin is doing' without naming the pop star directly. In turn, Sophie replied calmly to the question and said:

"We're human beings and stuff affects us. How you react to stuff is your decision. So I choose to try to listen to the music instead of the noise." 

Sophie acknowledged that the nonstop public scrutiny can feel overwhelming, but the way she reacts to it will always be her choice. She explained, "I'm very aware that a lot of public stuff out there can be triggers… The woman I become through this is my decision." These comments come just weeks after Katy Perry seemingly 'soft-launched' her relationship with Justin Trudeau on social media. 

For those unaware, the speculation about Justin Trudeau and Katy Perry's romance first began in July 2025, when they were were spotted dining together in Montreal. Soon after a few weeks, photos of the couple kissing on a yacht in California confirmed the speculations around their bond. According to the sources, they have a serious approach to their relationship, and they are both making time for each other despite their busy schedules. Meanwhile, Katy had parted ways with her longtime partner, Orlando Bloom, earlier in 2025.

Justin Trudeau and Sophie Gregoire's marriage and separation 

Justin Trudeau's new relationship has captured global attention. But his love story with Sophie Gregoire was no less either. The former couple first met as kids when Sophie was a classmate of Justin's younger brother, Michel. They reconnected years later as adults in 2003, marking the beginning of their romance. After dating for two years, Justin and Sophie tied the knot in 2005 and soon became a power couple in Canada. Together, they welcomed three children, Xavier, Ella-Grace and Hadrien. However, they were even open about the pressures on their bond that came with being in the public spotlight.

Mounting pressures eventually led to their divorce. On August 2, 2023, Justin and Sophie took to their Instagram handle and shared a similar statement announcing their decision to part ways after 18 years of marriage. They described the tough decision as coming after numerous meaningful and difficult conversations. Further, the PMO confirmed that they had signed a legal separation agreement. However, they emphasised that despite parting ways, they will continue to remain a close family and would focus on co-parenting their kids together. On the other hand, Sophie moved into a separate accommodation in Ottawa and balances it between spending time at Rideau Cottage for their kids.
