Sonu Sood has been in a feud with Kangana Ranaut for over five years, and their fallout remains a hot topic in the industry. The feud, which allegedly began during the production of Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi in 2019, escalated into a verbal spat when Kangana slammed Sonu for comparing food vendors spitting in customers' food to Shabri’s Ramayana episode.
Sonu Sood recently sat for a hearty chat with Shubhankar Mishra, during which he addressed his fallout with Kangana Ranaut. The tension between the two actors started when Sonu exited Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi, after Kangana took over. Kangana had claimed that Sonu’s decision to leave the film was because he refused to work under a female director. Sonu, however, dismissed these allegations, explaining that he left after seeing significant changes to his role in the film. Sonu shared:
“I left Manikarnika also because Kangana is my friend. We are not on talking terms right now, but I have been very close with her family – her mother, father and sister meet me very lovingly. I have a rule in life that if I have ever been close to someone or friends with them, more or less, if I have a problem, I will never speak against them.”
Sonu believes in the philosophy of not speaking ill about people he once shared a bond with, which is why he never retaliates to whatever people might say. From where he stands, he does not have any regrets, and he considers Kangana a good friend. Sonu told Shubhankar Mishra:
“People can say whatever they want, but I will never say anything against them. I might feel upset thinking, ‘This person was a good friend and said such things’. I feel that it’s her foolishness, she is not a bad person. But sometimes, when you write or say things, you don’t actually think it through. I might have also gone through this and done things out of being naive. However, there is no regret. It’s her own thinking, I prefer not to pay heed by answering.”
In the same conversation, Sonu Sood was asked if he and Kangana ever met or spoke to each other after the fallout. To this, the actor responded by saying:
“No, we have never even spoken to each other after Manikarnika. We even have a common friend, Ajay. He is close to both of us. He has tried to make us meet a couple of times, but I said it’s okay, let her be happy in her space.”
Given Kangana’s history of controversies with her co-stars and celebs, the question remains if the rift could ever be mended. Meanwhile, both actors have been busy with their respective projects. After a brief hiatus from the silver screen, Sonu Sood is all set for his upcoming action-drama, Fateh, set to premiere on January 10, 2025. On the other hand, Kangana is busy promoting her political drama, Emergency, which will hit the screens on January 17, 2025.
