Lately, a court in Punjab's Ludhiana area issued an arrest warrant against Bollywood actor, Sonu Sood in relation to an alleged fraud case of Rs. 10 lakh. The warrant reportedly was issued by the Ludhiana judicial magistrate, Ramanpreet Kaur. It was filed by a lawyer named Rajesh Khanna against Mohit Shukla in which he alleged that he was lured to invest in fake Rijika coin. The actor was summoned to the court as his name cropped up during the investigation, but he failed to appear in court to testify. An arrest warrant was released against the actor, who now has broken his silence.
The warrant that Judicial Magistrate Ramanpreet Kaur released directed the Oshiwara Police Station, Mumbai, to arrest the actor. Sonu, on February 7, 2025, took to X (formerly Twitter) and refuted the allegations. He said that the news circulating on social media is highly exaggerated. His tweet read:
"To be clear, we were summoned as a witness by the Honourable Court in a case related to a third party with whom we have no association or affiliation. Our lawyers have already responded, and on February 10, 2025, we will provide a statement proving our non-involvement."
The actor expressed his sadness over how stars get targeted and are embroiled in unnecessary controversy that only garners media attention. He also stated that he is neither a brand ambassador nor involved in any way. This is just an attempt to grab headlines. He shared that it was unfortunate that public figures became easy targets. Sonu would be taking strict legal action in this matter.
According to the court order, he had been given many summons and warrants, but he did not appear, which led to the non-bailable warrant. The order stated that Sonu needed to be present before the court on February 10, 2025, for the next hearing. The order further stated that he was directed to return this warrant on or before 10-02-2025 with an endorsement certifying the day and the manner in which it was executed or why it was not executed. A part of the order read:
"Sonu Sood has been duly served with summon(s) or warrant(s) but has failed to attend (absconds and keeps out of the way for the purpose of avoiding service of a summon(s) or warrant(s)). You are hereby ordered to arrest and bring the said Sonu Sood before the Court."
Interestingly, before the arrest warrant was issued against the actor, he had met Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu and donated four ambulances to strengthen the healthcare services in the state. Workwise, the actor was last seen in the action thriller, Fateh, which was also his directorial debut. The movie had Jacqueline Fernandez, Vijay Raaz, and Naseeruddin Shah and saw the actor play the role of Fateh Singh. His character was a special operations officer.
