Sonu Nigam Slams A Student For Rudely Asking Him To Sing In Kannada, Says 'See Who Is Standing...'

Sonu Nigam is renowned for his soulful voice, which consistently soothes the hearts of his fans. Known for his calm demeanour, the singer was forced to school a student after he rudely demanded Sonu to change the language he was singing in. The multi-lingual artist was taken aback by the abrupt demand mid-concert and didn't hesitate to tell the man off for being disrespectful.

Sonu Nigam has built a name for himself. Once he is on stage, the audience is assured that they are in for a good time. However, his concert in Bengaluru turned a little heated after a man rudely demanded the singer to sing in Kannada. Karnataka has been in the headlines over the past year for its debate over language, fights between auto drivers and non-Kannada-speaking passengers, and the government's order that insisted on having signboards in Kannada. 

Amid the chaos, Sonu Nigam had recently visited the state for a concert in Bengaluru. However, he also faced a similar experience, where a student rudely demanded that he sing in Kannada during his shows in Bengaluru. The video that has gone viral now showed that the singer had to stop his performance to express his dismay after a student repeatedly kept shouting 'Kannada, Kannada'. 

Sonu Nigam responded to the student, stating that he has sung in several languages over the years, but some of his best works have been in the Kannada language. So, whenever he comes to the city, he has a great deal of love and respect for the place. However, he didn't like being rudely asked to sing in Kannada by a boy who was not even as old as his career. He was quoted as saying:

"In my career, I have sung in multiple languages but the best songs that I have ever sung is in the Kannada language. Whenever I come to your city, I come with lots of love. We do a lot of shows in a lot of places, but whenever we have shows in Karnataka we come with a lot of respect for you. You have treated me like your family, but I didn’t like when the boy there, who is not even as old as my career, is rudely threatening me to sing in Kannada. This is the reason behind the incident in Pahalgam. Please see who is standing before you. I love you guys."

In the same video, Sonu Nigam can be seen explaining how he loves the people of Karnataka and their language as well. He stated that every time he performs anywhere in the world and hears even a single person shouting 'Kannada', he makes sure to perform at least one song for them. He added that that is how much he loves and respects the state and people of Karnataka. He was quoted as saying:

"I do so many shows across the world where thousands of people gather, and every time I hear even a single person shouting ‘Kannada’, I make sure to sing at least one line in Kannada for them. That's how much I love and respect each and every one of you. So please be kind."
