Sonam Kapoor is known as the fashionista of Bollywood who changed the way Bollywood looked at women's fashion and introduced her sister, Rhea Kapoor, who started the stylist trend in the world of glam and glitz. However, her life hasn't always been fancy, with perfect skin and hair. During her teenage, Sonam dealt with facial hair, acne and obesity due to her health condition, PCOS. Recently, Sonam talked about the same.
Recently, in an interview with journalist, Barkha Dutt, Sonam Kapoor revealed that she suffered from a health problem, PCOS, which is a hormonal disorder that leads to enlarged ovaries with small cysts on the outer edges. It also causes excessive facial hair in women, acne and obesity. Sonam fought with the same during her teens.
Sonam revealed that she had PCOS, which made her suffer from multiple hormonal issues. She had put on a lot of weight by the age of 16 when girls were supposed to be 'pretty'. Sonam also had facial hair and broke out in acne. People would taunt her, and make fun of her by referring to her as 'Anil Kapoor's daughter', who was once known for his body hair. She said:
"I had something called PCOS. They used to call it PCOD, but they’ve changed it now. Because of that, I had multiple hormonal issues. So, I put on weight when I was 16 years old, which is when you’re supposed to be your ‘prettiest’. I had facial hair, I broke out in acne, and I had people tell me, ‘She’s Anil Kapoor’s daughter’. I was traumatised."
Sonam revealed it was her mother, Sunita Kapoor, who helped her by showing her famous actress, Kajol's picture. Sonam stated that back in those days, Kajol had unibrows and hairline hair, despite it she was the biggest actress. Sonam recalled:
"At that time, I remember Kajol had a unibrow. She never did her eyebrows. She had hairline hair, and I remember my mom showing me Kajol’s picture, and she was like, ‘Look at her, she’s the biggest heroine right now.’ I remember seeing her and feeling motivated."
For those who don't know, back in the '90s, Kajol's confidence and amazing acting calibre never made anyone question her unibrow. She reassured Sonam that beauty wasn't defined by usual standards. It helped Sonam get the confidence and self-esteem she needed to make it big in Bollywood and life.
