Sonam Kapoor is on cloud nine as she took centre stage at King Charles III’s coronation concert on May 7, 2023, at Windsor Castle. Sonam opted for an off-shoulder floral gown, designed by Anamika Khanna and Emilia Wickstead. With a dainty necklace, matching earrings and open tresses, Sonam looked elegant.
At the concert, Sonam was introduced as one of the biggest actors in Bollywood. She began her speech with a namaste. She talked about India’s cultural diversity and introduced Steve Winwood, who performed a modern version of his iconic song Higher Love accompanied by a 70-piece orchestra.

The event was attended by Tom Cruise, Nicole Scherzinger and a few other celebs. Talking about Sonam Kapoor’s speech, the actress started her 1-minute speech with the traditional namaste and said:
“Our Commonwealth is a union. Together we are one third of the world’s people, one third of the world’s ocean, one quarter of the world’s land. Each of our countries is unique. Each of our people is special. But we choose to stand this one. Learning from our history, blessed by our diversity, driven by our values and determined to build a more peaceful, sustainable and prosperous future for everyone, where every voice is heard. Without further ado, here’s welcoming the incredible voices from across the Commonwealth.”
However, as soon as Sonam’s speech was shared on social media, netizens were quick to term it as ‘embarrassing’. Netizens not only trolled Sonam for her speech but also called her out for thanking British Empire, who enslaved India. One of the users wrote, “Did she thank the British Empire for enslaving and looting us in her speech. Just curious.” Another commented, “This is embarrassing.
