In the same conversation, Sonali continued explaining why her mother, Roopsi made such a statement and even she and her sisters were also left wondering about the same. Explaining it, Sonali mentioned that according to her mother, no girl has a voice without financial independence. Thus, to make one's voice recognisable, a girl needs to be dependent on herself. Sonali shared:
"My mother who has been a homemaker, she was always clear about what she wanted for her daughters. Aur unhone mujhe bahut clearly kaha huya that, hum teeno se ki aap duniya ke sabse aamir aadmi se bhi shaadi karlo agar, main uska consent nhi dungi jabtak aap financially independent apne dam pe nhi hojate. And we would say ki thikhain, I mean ki we understand ki koi duniya ka sabse aamir aadmi humse shaadi karne ke liye baitha huya nhi hai but kyun aese bol rhi ho. And she said no, financial independence jab tak nhi hai tab tak koi awaj nhi hai aapki. Aur jab tak you can't stand up for yourself aur aapki awaj nah ho tab tak life mein koi choice nhi hai. But to live what is dealt to you."
Coming to her personal life, Sonali is married to filmmaker, Goldie Behl. However, in the initial years, it was one-sided love from Goldie's side, who was bowled over by Sonali’s beauty. Moreover, he was less experienced than her then and belonged to a different culture.
