Sonakshi Sinha And Zaheer Iqbal On 7-Year Secret Relationship, 'Nazar', Who Fell First, And More

Actors and lovebirds, Sonakshi Sinha and Zaheer Iqbal tied the knot in a civil marriage on June 23, 2024 at the former’s Bandra West apartment. The intimate wedding was then followed by a grand reception, which was attended by the likes of Aditi Rao Hydari, Salman Khan, and Kajol, among others. In a recent conversation, the couple finally opened up about why they had kept their relationship hush-hush for seven long years.

Sonakshi Sinha talks about ‘nazar’ and advises that things dear to you are best kept private

For the unversed, Sonakshi Sinha and Zaheer Iqbal had been dating for seven years before getting hitched. During that time, the pair never openly confirmed their relationship despite being spotted at events together on several occasions. Well, Sonakshi and Zaheer finally got candid on what all the secrecy was about in a tell-all conversation with CNN-News 18.

When Sonakshi was first asked why they kept their relationship hidden, her immediate answer was crisp and clear. She claimed “nazar” was the primary reason, indicating a belief in the evil eye. Elaborating on her quip, Sonakshi said:

“I feel it’s always better to keep private things private. You’re already so much in the limelight; everybody knows everything about you. Something that is so dear to you should be kept for yourself.”

Sonakshi Sinha says there was no elaborate scheme to keep their relationship under wraps

Sonakshi Sinha also confessed that the secrecy of their relationship was the result of an entirely natural progression. She insisted that no elaborate strategy went into play to keep the relationship under wraps for all those years. Sonakshi shared more on this progression, saying:

“We met, we fell in love, we started going out. For me, I realised very early on that this is permanent.”

However, Zaheer didn’t have that realisation quite as soon as Sonakshi did. He admitted that he initially thought that he was merely caught up in the newness and excitement of the relationship. Over time though, Zaheer finally came to the conclusion that Sonakshi was the one for him and no one else. He said:

“A guy being a guy, I thought it was just because it was new. I knew from day one that she was the one, but I just accepted it much later.”

Salman Khan unintentionally played matchmaker for Sonakshi Sinha and Zaheer Iqbal

Sonakshi and Zaheer’s paths first crossed when they were both invited to a party at Salman Khan’s Galaxy apartment. However, it was at Salman’s afterparty for Tubelight that the pair really felt a spark. 

Zaheer recalled the evening for an interview with the Bombay Times and revealed that the two had been engrossed in conversation for five hours. So much so that everyone else ended up leaving while they were the only two left in the room. Zaheer confessed:

“We knew that day there was something special here.”
