Sonakshi Sinha Recalls Having Curfew At Home Until She Was 32, 'Zaheer Had The Biggest Problem...'

Sonakshi Sinha rose to fame with her debut film, Dabangg and never looked back. Her versatile performances, impressive screen presence and confident personality, have helped her find a way into people's hearts. The diva surprised her fans in June 2024 after she announced her wedding with longtime beau, Zaheer Iqbal. The best friends turned lovers often give couples goals through their social media handle, and netizens love their fun banter. In a recent interview, Sonakshi Sinha revealed how she used to have a strict upbringing while growing up, and her now-husband used to have a big problem with it when they were dating.

Sonakshi Sinha opens up about having a curfew at home until 32 

Sonakshi Sinha hails from a well-known film family. She is the daughter of actor-turned-politician, Shatrughan Sinha and Poonam Sinha. Recently, the actress sat down for an interview with Hautterfly and revealed that even after beginning her career in showbiz, she had a curfew to reach her home every night by 1:30 am. Moreover, Sonakshi shared that her mother used to closely check the time she returned home. However, her now-husband, Zaheer Iqbal, used to have a major issue with the time restraints. In her words:  

"I had a curfew of 1:30 am after I started working. Until I was 32, it was the same. Zaheer had the biggest problem with it."

Sonakshi added that whenever she broke the curfew, it was also because of Zaheer, and in turn, she used to get an earful from her mother. Calling her residence a 'fortress', the Rowdy Rathore actress shared that since she lived on the 10th floor of her residence and her parents reside on the 5th floor. So, her parents used to get an idea of her entry and exit timings. At the same time, they had a strict telephone operator, Mr Jha, who used to update her parents about her movements. Sharing how she convinced him to lie for her, Sonakshi said: 

"A couple of times, I remember telling my man to ask the operator not to call my parents. When Mom would start questioning the next day about what time I returned, I would know that Jha didn't call them, so I used to lie. It's a story of every household. They would start calling from midnight, asking where you are. They would scold me, saying it didn't look nice. She would always say these things in the context of my father saying what he would think, or she would complain to him, etc. My father is the chillest person in the world."

In the same conversation, Sonakshi Sinha shared that she shares a close bond with her mother, Poonam Sinha. The latter used to instil great values in her. However, she also tried to mould Sonakshi into someone who won't back-answer. Her mother did so because she came from the same upbringing and environment. Recalling the phase, the actress said: 

"In terms of conditioning, my mom tried to mould me as someone who doesn't back-answer. They have also grown up in that environment, so it comes naturally. As a mother, she tried to pass it on. Now times have changed, generations have changed, and there are so many things that I teach her too."

Sonakshi Sinha met Zaheer Iqbal met through Salman Khan. They soon became best friends and fell in love. Sonakshi mentioned that she was the one who approached him and first revealed their relationship to her mother, Poonam. After dating for seven years, the duo tied the knot in an intimate civil marriage ceremony at Sonakshi Sinha's Bandra residence. For her wedding, Sonakshi Sinha chose to re-wear an intricately embellished ivory saree that was originally worn by her mother on her wedding to Shatrughan Sinha around 44 years ago.
