Sonakshi Sinha Opens Up On Not Swimming In Bombay Or India, 'Kaun Kaha Se Photo Leke...'

Everyone in their growing up years may have faced body shaming issues. One of them has been Sonakshi Sinha, who has been fat-shamed since she was a kid. As a public figure, she learnt to deal with it over time after being brutally trolled for years. Sonakshi is confident when she faces the camera and has always been vocal about her body image issues. However, one thing that she completely avoids is swimming in India.

Sonakshi Sinha opens up on feeling conscious wearing swimsuit in India

Sonakshi, in a recent interview with the Hauterrfly, shared about how she has yet been trying to manage body image issues. The Heeramandi actress shared that she avoids swimming in Mumbai or India because of her body image concerns. This was because she always felt in a dilemma state being a public figure. In her words:

“Humesha hua. Specially while growing up. I don’t swim in Bombay, I don’t swim in this country. Because I don’t know kaun kaha se leke photo kheech lega meri and I don’t want that to be splashed all over the internet. I swim when I travel, I dive."

It is not like Sonakshi does not enjoy swimming but the constant fear of 'kaun kaha kab kheech le photo' runs in her mind. Sonakshi Sinha, who had faced fat shaming since her school days, also shared about her journey towards fitness. When she was 18 and in college, she started going to the gym for the first time. She went to the gym and tried on the treadmill, and after running for 30 seconds, she got tired. It was at that moment her journey towards fitness began.

When Sonakshi Sinha was told by her mom, Poonam Sinha, to lose weight

Sonakshi has always been an advocate of body positivity. Apart from being bullied in school for being fat, the actress shared in an old interview how her mom, Poonam, used to tell her to lose weight constantly. She got conditioned to this since a child. Sonakshi added:

"And when somebody was constantly saying that to you, the rebellious kid in me would always do the opposite and the day my mother stopped telling me that’s when it actually struck me that I need to do something about my weight."

When Sonakshi Sinha was not allowed to walk on the ramp as she was 'big'

Once in an interview with Pinkvilla, Sonakshi shared that her class had to organise this annual fashion show and she wanted to be a model and walk on the ramp. One of the girls from her college told her to manage the lights as she was too big to walk on the ramp. The actress felt judged for being overweight in college and remembered:

"'You handle the lights'. I said, "Why? I want to walk the ramp." She replied, "No, you are too big to walk the ramp." I just felt really bad."

On the personal front, Sonakshi got married to her best friend, Zaheer Iqbal on June 23, 2024. The couple dated for seven years before getting married to her bestie with whom she is having a blast.
