Ajay Devgn left the audience in splits when Son of Sardaar was released in 2012. The film starred Ajay Devgn, Sonakshi Sinha, Sanjay Dutt and Juhi Chawla in lead roles. The film was a remake of the 2010 Telugu film, Maryada Ramanna. Now, over a decade later, the film has returned to the screens with its sequel, Son of Sardaar 2, and fans are not fully satisfied.
Viewers are loving Ajay Devgn's return as 'Jassi Randhawa'. The character has his own charm, and swag is absolutely on point even after 13 long years. Ajay has been perfect in his comic timing, and the subtlety he brings to the character is something which the fans love. His rugged looks, combined with the silly humour, are something the audience finds extremely delightful. Even his forced dancing is thoroughly enjoyed. The actor's pairing with Mrunal Thakur was something that left the viewers surprised.
Mrunal Thakur essays the role of 'Rabia' in the film, and as it delves into the Indo-Pak tension with a twist, it hits the comic points just fine. The script addresses the political tension between the two countries in a funny manner. At the same time, Mrunal's portrayal of the Pakistani girl, who is settled in the UK and is going through the daily challenges of life with her family, is also well-loved. However, her lines in the film lack the punch that could have made it an even better movie.
Another character that has been a breath of fresh air in the film is that of 'Gullu'. Deepak Dobriyal brings the right emotions to the scenes wherever it is required. He is joined by the supporting cast, including Ravi Kishan, Ashwini Kalsekar, Chunky Panday, Kubra Sait, Roshni Walia, Vindu Dara Singh, and Sanjay Mishra, who add just the right amount of drama in the film. However, the film falls short as it lacks a good sense of humour. While some scenes will leave you in stitches, it just misses the mark.
Fans have shared their verdict on the film. A user penned, "It's a wonderful movie, lots of comedy, lots of laughing moments, it's a complete family entertainer. A must-watch." Another wrote, "#SonOfSardaar2 Is Far Far Better Than For #SonOfSardaar Part 1. It's a completely family entertainer movie. #AjayDevgn Give a Sensational Performance. Everyone should watch this movie with family." A comment read, "A full-on #AjayDevgn show with desi comedy and family drama. #MrunalThakur looks stunning and delivers a solid performance. Some scenes feel stretched, but overall it's a fun ride that gives the same entertainment as part one."
