The billionaire businessman resides in Antilia, one of the most expensive properties. But do you know Mukesh spent his childhood in a 100-year-old home in Gujarat’s Chorwad district? This is the birthplace of Dhirubhai Ambani, and the place has a rich history and cultural significance. Let us take a quick sneak peek into the palatial home.

The palatial home of the Ambanis, originally known as ‘Mangarolvalano Delo’, is located in the village of Chorwad in the Junagadh district of Gujarat. The two-storey building is built in a traditional Gujarati style, featuring a central courtyard, a huge garden surrounded by trees, several rooms and a shady veranda. Built on 1.2 acres of land, the property is currently valued at Rs. 100 crores.

Dhirubhai Ambani’s father, Hirachand Gordhanhai Ambani, owned the property and lived in it with his wife and six children. It is also the birthplace of Dhirubhai Ambani, who spent his childhood days here. He left the palatial home at 16 to go to Yemen.

The Ambanis originally rented a portion of the property in the early 1900s before eventually purchasing it in 2002 after the death of Dhirubhai Ambani. The mansion was transformed into a memorial back in 2011 and was renamed as ‘The Dhirubhai Ambani Memorial House’. It has witnessed multiple renovations and modifications in recent times.

The Dhirubhai Ambani Memorial House has been separated into two sections, with one portion designated for private usage. However, the remaining part of the house is accessible to the public. According to reports, the private part of the property is still frequently visited by Dhirubhai Ambani’s wife, Kokilaben Ambani. Visitors can access the mansions’ public spaces.

The public sections showcase the life of Dhirubhai Ambani through photographs, awards and personal belongings. On the other hand, the private section is reserved for the Ambani family and their guests. The Ambanis have successfully preserved the mansion's original architectural features, which pay homage to Dhirubhai Ambani’s memories.

The mansion was restored by leading interior design firm, Amitabh Teaotia Designs. Keeping the mansion’s original charm intact, they have introduced modern amenities making it environmental friendly.

The mansion is open to the public from 9 am to 6 pm for six days. It is closed on Mondays and public holidays. As per reports, visitors need to pay an entry fee of just Rs. 2 to gain access inside Mukesh Ambani’s ancestral home. The mansion is a popular destination for school and college students to take inspiration from Dhirubhai’s struggle story. Visitors can also purchase books and other souvenirs from the shop located within the mansion.
