The actress-turned-parliamentarian has cemented her as a powerhouse of talent, and has time and again shed goals with her immense dedication towards work. For the unversed, Smriti had been one of the leading actresses of Indian television, and has been the face of some of the most popular shows, such as Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi. Recently, the diva opened up about an unheard anecdote from her life.

Smriti Irani recalls selling cosmetics on Delhi’s footpaths at the age of seven

In a recent interaction with Curly Tales, Smriti Irani unfolded many unheard anecdotes from her life. The diva recalled her childhood, when she and her family members were thrown out of their rented home. Due to the dire financial crisis that they went through, Smriti, at the mere age of seven, had to take up a job and start selling cosmetics on the streets of Delhi. Talking about the first paycheck which she got out of her first-ever job, Smriti said:

“Saat saal ki umar ki thi when we were thrown out of our house. Meri jo pehli naukri thi woh thi beauty products bechna sadak pe. Din ke dihari they 200 rupay.”

Smriti Irani remembers walking out of an interview for air hostess

In another segment of the interview, Smriti Irani revealed that at one point in her life, she had gone for an interview with Jet Airways for the role of an air-hostess. She remembered how upon seeing the work that she needed to do for such a role, she was sure that it wasn’t suited for her. As a result, she walked out of it and went next door, where there was an interview going on at Mc Donalds for the role of cleaner. She instead decided to take that up. Narrating the past days, Smriti Irani shared:

“Main actually gayi thi Jet Airways mein air hostess banne. Mera interview hua Jet Airways mein. Jo kar rahe they, wo dekhke maine bola, personality nahi hai. Side mein jo hindustan ka pehla Mc Donalds hai, uska interview chal raha tha. Unhone kaha ek hi position bacha hai, who entry level hai. Maine kaha kya hai kaam? Bola, bartan dhona hai.”

Smriti remarked getting paid almost equal in television like her monthly pay as a cleaner at McDonalds

In another segment of the interview, Smriti Irani narrated that back in the days, she was paid Rs. 1800 per month as a cleaner in Mc Donalds. Incidentally, her television debut with Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi made her earn the same amount, but on a per day basis. As a result, Smriti further stated she had no other option than to switch over to television, just to earn more.

Apart from being a parliamentarian, Smriti Irani also happens to be a social butterfly, and she often shares snippets of her life out for her fans. For instance, earlier, on February 22, 2024, Smriti Irani dropped a few snapshots of performing Griha Pravesh at her newly purchased home in Amethi. Expressing her gratitude, she penned:

“Bhavani ki kripa, Mahadev ka aashirvaad. Bado ke sanidhya mein, choto ke sneh ke saath, Amethi mein nirmit apne naye ghar mein pravesh.”
