Nitish Bharadwaj rose to immense popularity with his role as ‘Lord Krishna’ in B.R. Chopra’s TV series based on the mythological epic, Mahabharat. He was also known for the portrayal of other divine characters in some other projects by the same director. In his personal life, Nitish got married to Smita Gate in 2009, and the couple then welcomed twin daughters. Off lately, the 60-year-old actor has been going through a rough phase in his personal life. Ever since he parted ways from his wife, Smita Gate, in 2018, Nitish has been going through a lot of challenges. Recently, he even filed a case against his ex-wife on the grounds of mental harassment and preventing him from meeting his daughters.

Smita Gate’s lawyer refutes all claims made by Nitish Bharadwaj

On February 15, 2024, Smita Gate’s lawyer, Chinmay Vaidya clapped back at these allegations made by Nitish Bharadwaj and called them ‘false’. In a report by the Times of India, the lawyer mentioned that his statements are defamatory and completely untrue. Chinmay said:

“The statements made by Nitish Bhardwaj are completely false and defamatory in nature. It is a personal matter where my client's children are involved, and the case is sub judice. We shall be releasing a statement shortly, narrating the facts.”

Nitish Bharadwaj filed a complaint against his ex-wife, Smita Gate accusing her of mental harassment

For the unversed, the actor, Nitish Bharadwaj lodged a police complaint in Bhopal against his ex-wife, Smita, who is an IAS officer, accusing her of mental abuse on February 15, 2024. He stated in his complaint that he filed for divorce in 2018, but the case has not yet been resolved. Moreover, his ex-wife has prevented him from seeing his daughters, Devyani and Shivranjani, by relocating their school without his permission. Nitish also mentioned that this situation has been affecting his mental health. 

As per a report by Free Press Journal, previously, Nitish filed a written complaint against his estranged wife, Smita, with the Mumbai Family Court. The complaint documents their 12-year-long marriage and the decision to file for divorce in 2018. However, the divorce proceedings have not been finalised yet, and the matter is still ongoing. Nitish alleged in the same complaint that Smita had violated his rights as a father by not allowing him to meet their daughters.

Moreover, the actor has sought help from the Police Commissioner of Bhopal, Harinarayanachari Mishra, regarding his legal battle and being denied visitation rights to his daughters. Upon receiving the complaint, the police acted promptly and assigned an investigating officer, Phalguni Dixit, to look into the matter. The Bhopal Police Commissioner Harinarayanachari has previously confirmed with ETimes TV about Nitish's complaint. He said:

"We have received the complaint and an additional DCP is enquiring into the complaint filed by Bhardwaj."
