Cho Jin-woong is widely recognised for his role in the acclaimed drama, Signal. However, his latest revelations have left everyone shocked. For the unversed, the actor announced his retirement after acknowledging past misconduct committed during his youth. The actor's statement comes amid reports detailing offenses allegedly committed while he was a minor.

Cho Jin-woong announces retirement

On December 6, 2025, Cho Jin-woong issued a public statement through his agency, SARAM Entertainment. In the now viral statement, the South Korean actor addressed his past and his decision to step away from his acting career. In the statement, Cho Jin-woong apologised for letting his supporters down and accepted the reprimands he would face for his actions. He further announced his retirement, stating that, starting December 6, 2025, he will suspend all his activities and bring his career to an end. The statement could be read as:

"I apologise for letting down those who supported and believed in me because of my past misconduct. I accept all reprimands. Starting today, I will suspend all my activities. I am putting a period to my path as an actor. I humbly accept all criticism, and as of today, I will suspend all activities and bring my acting career to an end."

In the same statement, Cho Jin-woong admitted that he bears the weight of his past mistakes. Cho added that he will be focusing on being a better human being. He concluded his statement by apologising once again. The statement could be read as:

"I believe this is the rightful responsibility and duty I must bear for my past mistakes. From here onward, I will do my utmost to stand again as a proper human being. Once again, I sincerely apologize. Thank you to everyone I loved and respected. I am sorry."

What are the misconduct allegations against Cho Jin-woong?

According to a local media outlet, Dispatch, Cho Jin-woong was implicated in an incident from 1994. The report dated Friday, December 5, 2025, stated that when he was in high school, there were allegations of s**ual assault and theft. The report states that Cho Jin-woong served time in a juvenile detention facility as a consequence of these actions. While few details are known, the revelation left everyone shocked.

Earlier reports and online discussions raised several questions about Cho Jin-woong's past, citing multiple allegations against the actor. The said allegations included vehicle theft and s**ual assault during his adolescence. His agency, SARAM Entertainment, had previously acknowledged that Cho Jin-woong committed wrongdoings as a minor. The agency clarified that the allegations against the actors were true. However, that happened over three decades ago. He stated:

"We confirmed with the actor that he had committed wrongdoings when he was a minor. But the confirmation is based on facts that were done more than 30 years ago, and it is difficult to grasp the whole situation. But we want to make sure that he wasn’t involved in s**ual assault behaviors."
