'Jimmy' works alongside his colleague, 'Gaby', under their mentor 'Paul'. However, his unconventional methods to deal with clients are opposed by 'Paul'. Usually, therapists listen and guide their patients without interfering in their personal lives. But 'Jimmy' actively interferes with his patients’ personal lives. 'Paul' calls 'Jimmy's' action unprofessional.

Shrinking Season 2 introduces 'Louis', the drunken driver who is responsible for 'Jimmy's' wife, 'Tia's' death. The major highlight of Season 2 is forgiveness. 'Jimmy' forgives 'Louis' and saves him as he was on the verge of ending his life. In fact, in Shrinking Season 2, 'Jimmy's' broken relationship with his daughter, 'Alice', gets mended after she temporarily moved in with 'Jimmy's' colleague, 'Gaby'. While Bill confirmed that Season 4 will feature the same cast, the audience might see Lilan Bowden, who played 'Tia' in the new season. But as the idea of Shrinking Season 4 crept in, they have planned a new storyline for it with the same cast. He wrote:

"We always pitched a three-season story on #Shrinking grief-forgiveness-moving forward. We wanted to stay true to that and end the way we planned. (So excited to do Season 4 and a new story with the same cast.)"
