The handsome cricketer, renowned by the nicknames 'Gabbar' and 'Mr ICC,' created history by breaking the jinx against South Africa during the ICC World Cup 2015. It is not just Shikhar’s cricketing career; his personal life has come under the radar quite often.
The handsome cricketer is leading the headlines currently after he was spotted with a mystery girl on February 20, 2025. The duo arrived to witness the match between India and Bangladesh in the ICC Champions Trophy. Shikhar was papped with the same mystery girl, he was spotted last year in November 2024. Now, the internet is buzzing with rumours of Shikhar and his mystery woman.
This is not the first time that Shikhar’s personal life has got into the limelight. The cricketer’s ugly divorce from his wife, Ayesha Mukherjee, is one of the worst chapters of his life. A fairytale romance and marriage came crashing down when Shikhar and Ayesha parted ways. However, the mental agony the cricketer went through was immense. Let us read on to know what went wrong in Shikhar and Ayesha’s marriage.
Shikhar Dhawan got married to a trained kickboxer, Ayesha Mukherjee, in October 2012. It was Ayesha's second marriage, who was previously married to an Australian businessman and they had two daughters, Rhea and Aliyah. However, after Shikhar and Ayesha's marriage, the couple welcomed their first child, a baby boy, in 2014 and named him Zorawar.
However, in 2020, the couple went through a rough patch, and there were rumours that Shikhar and Ayesha were filing for divorce because of irreconcilable issues. By September 2021, Ayesha and Shikhar made the tough decision to part ways. According to a report from Bar and Bench, Dhawan claimed that Ayesha demanded 99% ownership of three properties he had purchased in Australia. She also wanted to be the co-owner of his other properties.

Ever since their separation, Ayesha shifted to Australia and took their son, Zoravar, with her and did not let Shikhar meet his son. Shikhar has been posting heartfelt notes on his social media handles stating how he has been kept away from his son. Earlier in 2024, the cricketer sat for an interview with the Humans of Bombay. During their conversation, Shikhar talked about his ‘detached’ relationship with his 10-year-old son. In his words:
“Wherever he is, I hope he is happy, hopefully one day he will come and see me. I am in love with him but at the same time, I am also detached. I don't want to push him. I write messages to him every day, I don't know whether he is receiving those or not, whether he is reading it or not. I don't have any expectations. I have accepted it. I am a father, and I am trying to do my duty. I miss him, I feel sad but I have learnt to live with it.”
Shikhar Dhawan was granted divorce from his former wife, Ayesha Mukerji, by the Delhi Court in October 2023 on the grounds of ‘cruelty’ and ‘mental agony’ inflicted on him by his ex-wife. The court had ordered Ayesha to bring their son to India for visitation purposes and also granted Shikhar mandatory visitation rights to meet Zoravar in India and Australia.
Shikhar Dhawan is known for his resilience on and off the field. His failed marriage with Ayesha has impacted him in various ways.
