Shekhar Suman and his son, Adhyayan Suman, were most recently seen in Sanjay Leela Bhansali's magnum opus, Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar. While the 61-year-old actor played the role of 'Nawab Zulfikar', his son portrayed dual roles. One was that of 'Nawab Zoravar', and another was the younger version of 'Nawab Zulfikar' in the Netflix series. SLB's latest project gave Adhyayan another chance to revive his career in the highly competitive entertainment industry. Recently, the actor talked about the ups and downs in his career.
While conversing with Bollywood Hungama, Adhyayan recalled the time when he started his career by being the protagonist in the film. However, as his movies started failing at the box office, the poster size of the actor kept getting smaller. But this did not waver his immense determination and love towards his craft. Sharing that he intends to make those posters bigger again, Adhyayan said:
"I began my career being the hero of all my films and then the poster size kept getting smaller and smaller. I know how much that hurts. Now the fight is to make it bigger again, that’s the whole journey."

After listening to his son's statement, Shekhar Suman asked him to take inspiration from the journey of popular Bollywood actress, Katrina Kaif. The 61-year-old actor recalled the time when Katrina was working on her debut film, Boom. He complimented the actress' journey from her inability to say her lines properly to giving her best performance in films like Rajneeti and Zindagi Na Milegi Dobaara. Shekhar Suman also discussed Deepika Padukone and Ananya Panday's career graphs and said:
"Take a cue from other people’s journey. Look at Katrina Kaif. When she came in Boom, she couldn’t stand, say her lines, or even dance, but look at where she reached. Look at her performance in Rajneeti and Zindagi Na Milegi Dobaara. Even in Dhoom 3, you could never say that she is the same girl who had started like that. It happens to the best of people. Even Deepika Padukone grew into a beautiful actress. Ananya Panday used to go through a lot of trolling until Kho Gaye Hum Kahan happened. So you have to take it on your chin with a pinch of salt and a sense of humour."

Earlier, during his conversation with Siddharth Kanan on his YouTube channel, Shekhar Suman recalled the time when he was shooting with the then-reigning queen of Bollywood, Rekha, on his debut film, Utsav. He said that he would forever remain grateful to the legendary actress as she said yes to working with a newcomer when she could have easily refused to work with him. The actor further said he has been thankful to Shashi Kapoor and Girish Karnad for giving him his big break in the industry.

In the same interaction, Shekhar further heaped praise on Rekha and mentioned that he never saw an actress as professional as her. He revealed that there was a massive income tax raid at her home on the first day of the shoot of Utsav. The 61-year-old actor added that had it been any other actor, they would have packed their bags and gone away, but Rekha stayed focused on her job. In his words:
“Itni professional actress uske baad mujhe zindagi mein bohot kam aise log mile jo itna professional apne kaam mein bilkul maahir. I remember that she had a massive income tax raid on the first day of the shoot. Any other actor would have packed their bags and gone away. She said, ‘Let them do their job, I’ll stay back and do mine.’”
