Sonakshi Sinha is living the best time of her life with her husband, Zaheer Iqbal. The duo tied the knot with each other on June 23, 2024, after dating for seven long years. However, there was a constant buzz that Sonashi's parents were unhappy with her union with Zaheer. Moreover, her brother, Luv Sinha, confirmed he didn't attend Sonakshi's wedding as he didn't want to associate with some people.
In an interview with the ETimes, Zaheer Iqbal was asked how he had asked for Sonakshi Sinha's hand from her father, Shatrughan Sinha. To this, the actor revealed that Shatrughan is the sweetest person he has met in a long time and admitted to being nervous during the first meeting. However, when they began talking, they became like friends. Zaheer Iqbal said:

"I went over to their house, and I was nervous because until that moment, I had never had a one-on-one chat with him (Shatrughan Sinha). The moment we started talking, we began discussing a million things and we became like friends. Of course, I also told him that I wanted to ask her (Sonakshi Sinha) to marry me. I know he’s got this image of being intimidating, but he’s so genuine, chilled out and he is the sweetest person I’ve met in a long time."

Speaking along the same lines, Sonakshi Sinha added that her father was supportive of her relationship with Zaheer. She stated that she also felt nervous while talking about Zaheer to Shatrughan and recalled the conversation that they had. Sonakshi revealed that she was surprised to see how supportive and cool her dad is and added:
"When I told my father about us, even I was very nervous. I didn’t know how he would react. I was trying to play it really cool. I asked him, 'Aren’t you worried about my marriage because you haven’t asked me anything about it?' He said, 'I have asked your mom ki apni beti se pucho.' Then, I told him there is a guy called Zaheer in my life, and he said, 'Haan maine bhi padha tha'. He said, 'You guys are grown-ups; Miya biwi raazi toh kya karega qazi'. I was like, ‘Oh, that was easy!’ I realised how chilled out and cool my dad is. He was really supportive about our relationship."
Sonakshi was further asked about the rumours about her parents being unhappy about her wedding and who among them was more emotional - mom or dad. Responding to it, Sonakshi said that both her parents were very emotional. While her mother broke down at the wedding, her father stood strong by her. In her words:
"Both mom and dad were very emotional. Dad just appears strong about it, but from within, he's a softie. He was standing right next to me, and I knew that he was feeling very emotional, so I held on to him and told him, don't worry, I'm not going anywhere. My mom broke down during the wedding when she realised that I was actually going to be moving out of the house. Now, we visit them very often, in fact, I speak to my mom a lot more now, at least twice a day."

Sonakshi and Zaheer also talked about how their religious differences impacted their equation with each other. Sonakshi shared that in the seven years of dating, their different faiths never come up in a discussion as they both respect each other's religions. She added that the only chatter about their religions is from the outside, and they have learnt to shut it out. Zaheer added:
"I know one thing for sure that I could have 50,000 disagreements with Sona, but it will never have anything to do with religion. Salim uncle (Salman Khan's father) had once shared with me that this is what he had told Salma aunty's parents when they got married."
