Sharmin Segal has been in the headlines ever since Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s web series, Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar was released on Netflix. The actress, who played the role of ‘Alamzeb’, has been at the forefront of all the criticism as the audience was not impressed by her acting in the larger-than-life series. The debate around Sharmin’s casting in the series has also added fuel to the nepotism discourse. However, the filmmaker’s niece chose not to pay much heed to all the noise around her and continued basking in the success of Heeramandi.
Recently, Sharmin took to her Instagram account and shared a few behind-the-scene glimpses from the sets of her latest released project, Heeramandi. In the carousel of pictures, the actress was seen enjoying pizza with her co-star, Sonakshi Sinha, striking a cool pose with the veteran actress, Farida Jalal, and spending some good time with Aditi Rao Hydari and Manisha Koirala. She has also posted some random memorable moments while shooting Heeramandi. Sharing the glimpses, Sharmin mentioned in the caption:

Sharmin has disabled the comment section of her Instagram account in response to the significant criticism she faced for her role in Heeramandi. Earlier, while interacting on the BBC Asian Network Podcast, the actress opened up about the criticism she has been facing at present, and how she coped with everything. Revealing that she has a very strong support system, Sharmin said:
“There is a lot of pressure, and sometimes it manifests in weird ways. But I have a really good support system. I think my strongest support system is my sister. She also happened to be an assistant director on the show. So, it worked out in a way where I do have my outlets where I can vent.”

Sharmin, who married Aman Mehta in November 2023, said that she is secure in her personal life and puts everything at work aside when she returns home. Moreover, SLB’s niece mentioned that she wants to prove her worth to the audience, but she isn’t going to put much pressure on it. Sharing that she is a realistic person, Sharmin said:
“In my personal life, I am secure enough today to come home to my husband and put everything that I have done at work aside. But I am not that person who’s gonna constantly put that much pressure on it. Yes, I do want to prove myself; but today I am also a realist in that way. After all, how many people’s opinions are you gonna shape or have control over.”
During her appearance on The Great Indian Kapil Show along with her Heeramandi co-stars, Sharmin was questioned by Kapil if she really had to audition for her role or if she got the offer as she is Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s niece. To this, the actress revealed that she prepared for a year and went through 16 rounds of auditions to get ‘Alamzeb’s role in the series.
