One of the popular actresses of her time, Sharmila Tagore opened up about her hilarious reaction when the late cricketer, Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi had proposed to her for marriage in Paris all of a sudden. For the unversed, Sharmila and Mansoor's love story was the testimony of time. After being in a relationship for an extended period of time, they tied the knot on December 27, 1969.
Recently, Sharmila Tagore appeared on The Kapil Sharma Show and opened up about her love story with the late cricketer, Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi. During the candid conversation, Sharmila mentioned how she was initially a fan of another cricketer, Motganhalli Laxminarsu Jaisimha. However, she also revealed how Mansoor Ali Khan's humour was completely different and shared:
“I was a Jaisimha (Indian cricketer) fan but somehow I met Nawab Pataudi. He just returned from England and it was difficult to understand what he spoke because of his British accent. His humour was different. Vo khud ke joke pe khud hi hanste the kyunki humein samajh hi nahi aata tha. I think my children will kill me when they’ll hear this.”

Further, Sharmila denied that it wasn't love at first sight for her. However, their relationship grew stronger as they trusted each other, and she believed that Tiger Pataudi would never “hurt me intentionally”. She also revealed a hilarious reaction when the love of her life, Mansoor had proposed to her for marriage in Paris. She shared:
“We were in Paris and it was Bastille Day when the entire city is on the roads to celebrate their independence. There, he went down on his knees, just like it happens in the movies, and asked me, 'Will you marry me?' I was like, ‘Kya bol rahe ho? Sunaai nahi de raha. There was so much noise. Then he said it loudly and I said, ‘Yes yes I will’.”
Once, Sharmila Tagore became a hot topic of discussion among gossipmongers as she did a bikini shoot for a magazine cover in 1966. For the shoot for Filmfare magazine, she wore a black bikini and this had stirred a lot of controversies. Many years after this, in a 2020 interview, the actress opened up about the same in a candid conversation with Diya Jaiswal for the book club, Ladies Study Group. Explaining how she thought that she looked nice, and even after the photographer was hesitant, Sharmila mentioned that it would look good on the front page.

At that time, Sharmila was in London, but the situation in India was very critical, and people were criticising the actress for her bold move. So then, she sent a telegram to her husband, Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi, who stood like a pillar with her. Reacting to the same, Mansoor had said that he was sure that his ladylove looked very nice and was extremely supportive.
