Sharmila Tagore Reveals How Husband, Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi Supported Her To Work After Marriage

In a recent interview, Sharmila Tagore opened up about people asking her how her husband, Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi allowed her to work in films after their marriage.

The veteran actress, Sharmila Tagore never shies away from talking about the decisions she took in her professional career that contributed to making her one of the timeless actresses of all time. Sharmila lost her heart to the iconic cricketer, Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi back in the 60s, and in 1969, they got married. The couple welcomed three kids, Saif Ali Khan, Saba Ali Pataudi and Soha Ali Khan. Despite belonging to different religions, both Sharmila and Mansoor respected their beliefs, which made them one of the most admired celebrity couples of all time.

In a recent interview with Bollywood Bubble, Sharmila Tagore recalled when people asked her how her husband, Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi, allowed her to work in films, even after their marriage. The actress admitted that it was quite normal to hear such questions from people because, in that era, women weren’t even allowed to study. Sharmila also gave an example of her mother and revealed how she wasn’t allowed to study in a co-ed university. Reflecting on the difference between her time and the current scenario, Sharmila shared:

"I had a lot of support from my family, my husband, who always gave me space, always supported me in everything. I didn't have to explain myself. So I had that kind of support. I have been very blessed with that. My mother wasn't allowed to go to a co-ed university, she had to do her MA privately. I have been asked, 'How did your husband allow you to work after you got married'. Things are changing. We are going forward."

In the same interview, Sharmila Tagore opened up about her three kids, Soha Ali Khan, Saif Ali Khan and Saba Ali Pataudi. The doting mother of three children revealed the traits her kids have carried from her and their father, late Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi. Revealing how Saif is quite like her, as they share the same temperament, the veteran actress added that Soha is more like her father, Tiger Pataudi, and it is Saba, who is the mix of both.

For the unversed, Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi had passed away on September 22, 2011, at Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, Delhi. The ace cricketer died due to a lung infection with which he had battled for many years before finally losing his life to it at the age of 70. In the same interview with Bollywood Bubble, Sharmila Tagore also talked about the impact of her husband’s demise on her life. Opening up about the same, she admitted that she doesn’t believe in the saying that time heals all wounds.

However, she admitted that she doesn’t miss him as she always experiences her husband’s presence around her. Sharmila Tagore also quoted her Gulmohar co-star, Manoj Bajpayee’s thoughts on the same topic and added that we always remember a person's memories, even after losing them. She also explained that whenever she is up to do something new and is about to take a decision, she is aware of her husband, Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi’s take on it. Sharmila said:

"Well that’s where I feel that a lot of people say that time heals. I don’t think Time heals, I think memory is healed and then as Manoj Bajpayee said that you just remember the memories and the void I do not feel because I feel his (Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi) presence. I know that if I wanted to do something if I wanted to say something, what his answer would have been. So I know the answer."

Further, in the same interview, Sharmila Tagore also talked about her married life with her husband, Mansoor Ali Khan and admitted that they always respected each other’s thoughts and tried their best to follow the notion that "It’s okay to disagree". The doting wife admitted that there were several topics where they had different views, but also, there were many things on which she and Mansoor had the same thoughts. Opening about the same, she said:

"So you know sometimes you argue but the certain things we never agreed upon and certain things so I know that answer so you know sometimes you argue but the certain things we never agreed upon and certain things and then you look at each other and you know. So I think those are my personal views, that I do not have to avoid and I feel his (Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi) presence all the time. He is very much a part of my life."

On the professional front, Sharmila Tagore will be next seen in the much-awaited film, Gulmohar.
